What a week!

After 8 hours in the St. Joseph emergency room last night, I'm not feeling up for much. Never the less I managed to drag myself into work and feel good that I got some loose ends tied up. I recently got promoted to a more critical account, which means more work and more attention to detail. I know that I'll be good for the position, it's just hard proving that to my employer when I'm constantly leaving early for the Doctors and ER visits.
I'm happy that it's almost the weekend for two reasons: 1) I will finally give my body the time it needs to heal and 2) Adam will finally be back from Sault Lake City, Utah. It hasn't been too hard doing everything on my own, I just wish I had someone to cuddle up with and make me feel better.

Still Sick...

So I'm home sick from work today. I finally broke down and dragged myself into the Doctor yesterday afternoon. Apparently it's a good thing I did. I'm now on antibiotics and an inhaler to treat pneumonia. I always thought that pneumonia was only something old people got...guess I was wrong. I do remember my grandma yelling at me as a child: "Put a coat on, you're going to catch pneumonia!"
Either way, this is where I am at. I'm actually feeling much better yesterday and today than I was all last week. I have some abdominal pain and a headache which I think are just side effects from my medication. Other than that it's just the basic R&R for me. Don't think I'll be making it to the gym anytime soon...

Being sick SUCKS!!!

I hate being sick! It started a couple weeks ago with a sore throat in the morning. I figured it was just the fluctuating weather patterns and all the traveling I’d done over the holidays. Then it moved from my throat to my nose. It became the nasty kind of nose cold where you have to breathe through your mouth in order to get air. It’s now in its final stage (at least I’m hoping this is the final stage) and has moved into a post nasal drip sort of cold. The kind of post nasal drip where you breathe through your mouth and you can actually hear the mucus rattling around in the back of your throat. It’s the kind of cold that causes other people to step back when you start to cough and as bad and it is I’m sure it sounds 10 times worse. I’ve been taking mucinex and decongestants but that seems to make me want to cough like crazy, which is only straining and hurting my throat more. Sometimes I feel like I can talk normally and other times I want to whisper to avoid losing my voice.
Needless to say, I haven’t gone to the gym since before the holidays because of this cold, so my diet doesn’t seem to be going very well. On the other hand, I haven’t been eating as much because I don’t feel well and maybe, if anything, this cold can help me drop a couple pounds. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

New Years Resolutions

Thinking about the New Year, there are several resolutions I’ve made and intend to keep:
  • Lose 10-15 lbs by summer. This includes not eating ANY fried foods or drinking any soda (unless it’s diet)… so far I’ve been able to do both (with the exception of last night…oops). I’ll also need to start exercising on a regular basis. My goal is to workout for 1 hour or more, 3 times a week.
  • Invest $5,000 in various liquid assets.
  • Continue to volunteer with Girl Scouts and Religious Education; it’s one of the only things that allow me to feel like I may be able to make a difference, even if it’s just for a couple hours a week. Possibly do some fundraising for Girl Scouts to allow us to go on more outings.
  • Read 10 + books. It’s easier said than done, but I figured thar 10 seemed like a reasonable expectation for myself.
  • Try not to nag Adam as much over little, petty things.
  • Spend more time with my family and friends. It’s hard to get back to Michigan, so I’d like to make/spend more time with “local” friends.
  • Bring my lunch to work 3-4 days/week to limit my spending at lunch.
  • I only have one body so I should start taking better care of it. I want to put forth an effort to get enough rest, drink enough water, and get enough vitamins.

3 month recap

So I realize that I’ve neglected my blog for far too long. I would love to give a detailed summary of everything that’s happened since my birthday, however I don’t have the time and I’m sure nobody would like the read the novel that would entail. Instead I will summarize the past 3 months of my life with a simple bulleted list, and photos.

  • Celebrated Halloween as Saved by the Bell characters with my best friend Kendra in Port Jeff. See Kendra's post for more a details.

  • Flew home to Michigan to celebrate my sisters 20th birthday the same weekend that I threw Emily her bridal shower and bachelorette party in early November.

  • Moved from Sales to Project Management at my current employer which has meant that I am actually enjoying my work.

  • Came home for Thanksgiving, Emily’s wedding and to celebrate birthdays.

Ate Thanksgiving dinner with Adam’s family for the 4th consecutive year. I still cannot believe it’s been so long!

Gave my maid of honor speech at Emily’s wedding where I said I was honored to be her best man. I’ve been known to say/do some pretty funny stuff but this was completely unintended so I’m glad that everyone had a good laugh.

Celebrated my Dad, Adam and Grandmother’s birthdays with Adam’s family when everyone was back in Michigan for Thanksgiving.

  • Celebrated Adam’s 25th birthday in Rochester, NY with his family.

  • Went to court in early December and had to go to court and pay $400.00 for two bogus tickets I received back in October.

  • Flew back to Michigan from December 23rd-December 27th

Visited with my dad’s side of the family on the 23rd at a small gathering at my parent’s house.

Went to Kendra’s parent’s house and visited with her entire immediate and extended family, as well as one of our best friends from high school, Carl.

Had dinner in Brighton with my friend from college, Abbie on Christmas Eve.

Went to Midnight mass with my family…one of my favorite Christmas traditions.

Opened presents with my family on Christmas morning (probably the best part of Christmas), followed by brunch, desert and more presents with my grandma.

Shared Christmas evening with Adam’s family at his Aunt’s house.

Visited with Adam’s grandmother and Aunt, Uncle and cousin from his fathers side of the family on the 26th.

Went to dinner in Royal Oak to meet up with our college friends, also on the 26th.

  • Flew from Detroit to Orlando on the 27th to celebrate the holidays with Adam’s family while vacationing in Disney World.

    Flight to Orlando:
    Missed connecting flight
Had to wait 3 hours for next flight which we were on stand by for
Told there was only 1 seat in coach and would need to purchase 1st class seat in order to get on the plane.
Found out there were two seats in coach at the last minute when Adam was at the Service Center inquiring about the cost to upgrade. Called Adam to have him come back to the departure gate.
Airline worker behind the counter said they couldn’t hold the plane to wait for my boyfriend and would have to take the next two people on the stand by list.
Screamed at airline worker and nearly jumped behind the counter to wring his neck when I saw Adam running to the gate.
Got on plane only to realize there only appeared to be one seat in coach because someone put their child in a seat when they were supposed to be sitting on their lap and weren’t issued a seat.
Closed the plane door and told one of us to sit in the empty coach seat and for one of us to grab a seat in first class.
Adam let me take the seat in first class which allowed me to finally calm down.

Arrived in Orlando 4 hours later than originally scheduled but it felt so good to finally be there.
Exchanged gifts with Adam’s family at the hotel.

Hopped from Disney Park to Park for 4 days eating tons of expensive food and enjoying gorgeous 80 degree weather.

Celebrated the New Year with a delicious dinner at The Brown Derby at MGM Studios, followed by drinks and fireworks and Epcot.

Got up at 5:00am to make out 8:30am flight to Newark. Luckily we had no problems on the return flight and were greeted at our arrival gate by our friends Mark and Becky who were flying home to Michigan after spending the weekend in New Jersey celebrating the New Year with our college friends.

Met our college friends downstairs who drove us home, and then hung out with them for the next two evenings they were in town.

As you can see my holidays have been filled with friends and family. Although 2006 is now behind me I cannot wait to see with 2007 holds for me.
