Christmas at home

On Saturday afternoon I arrived back in Detroit to a house full of 30+ people. I have no idea how my parents fit everyone in our tiny house, but I'm sure it helped that for the first time in years our basement was actually functional. For the past couple weeks my parents have been clearing out the basement both for the Christmas party and in anticipation of moving, if and when they actually find a house that suites them. I saw all of my cousins, most of which I hadn't seen for quite some time. Seriously, how cute is my youngest cousin Nathan?

We had our traditional huge family dinner, opened presents and had 17 participants for our annual ornament exchange.
On Sunday the 23rd I helped my mom with some last minute Christmas shopping and met up with some college friends at Buffalo Wild Wings that evening. It was great to catch up and see some people I haven't seen since this summer except I realize how spoiled I am by having both New Jersey and New York non-smoking.
Sure enough I woke up Christmas Eve with a killer sore throat which didn't help my already existing cold. I went to get a manicure and pedicure and then Adam and I finished up some of our last minute Christmas shopping. Christmas Eve we went to my grandma's for dinner and presents and then came home to shower and get ready for midnight mass.
On Christmas morning my mom had to work so for the first time in 24 years we woke up and didn't rush to open all the presents under the tree, instead waiting until the evening when everyone would again be in our pajamas gathered around the tree. During the day I relaxed, trying to kick whatever virus I had.

We went to Adam's grandmothers house and then his aunt's house. We got these from Adam's grandparents, his is the beer mug and mine is the wine glass.

Unfortunately, I felt miserable around 8:00pm and my right eye which seemed to have signs of pink eye earlier in the day had spread to my left eye which was now burning and runny. We came home a bit earlier than planned and opened presents around the tree with my parents and sister. Here are some of the highlights from the evening.

Last night I spent the night on the couch for fear of getting Adam or my sister sick. Luckily I have one more day at home to rest and get better before heading to Vegas tomorrow. I'm on antibiotics and I'll soon be on eyedrops for my eye, so whatever this is, I think I'm prepared.

Quick update

So I realize I haven't posted in awhile. Maybe it's because I rarely have feeling in my fingertips since it's been so freakin' cold out!? Anyways, below are some of the highlights of the past several weeks

- Went back to MI for Thanksgiving. Booked the reception hall and reserved the church for the wedding. Save the date: May 23rd, 2009.
- While back in MI for Thanksgiving we took my sister Ashley out to Royal Oak for the night. She recently turned 21 so we wanted to take advantage of her newly acquired legal rights and get her drunk. The night didn't end up very well... with me cleaning puke off the seats in my parents car at 3:00am and all, but either way, what a night!
- Last Friday Adam and I had a "date night" and did dinner and a movie. The movie was a little disturbing, but it was a nice low-key end to a hectic work week and after the busy Thanksgiving weekend we had it was just what we needed.
- Last Saturday night Adam, Walt and I met up with Walt's brother and friends at a small bar in Brooklyn. Because we took the train into NYC we had to leave fairly early to catch the last train out of Penn. It was a good night and I'm glad it wasn't the typical Adam and Walt night until 5:00am.
- Sunday was a very nice day spent indoors. We recieved our first snow of winter over the night so we spent the day hiding in the apartment sleeping in, cooking, wathcing tv and playing GH3.
- Monday was Adam's birthday. I gave him his presents and cooked him the meal he requested... a frozen 5 pound block of Stouffers Macaroni and Cheese. It was a good night with just the two of us eating a white-trash dinner and watching the tube.
- Wednesday night I left work a little early to meet Kendra in the city for Wicked. For Christmas I got her tickets to the show and dinner in NYC. We had dinner at a small italian restaurant around the corner from the theater. The show was amazing (even for the 2nd time) and I'm glad she finally got to see a show on Broadway since her move here last year.
- Tonight we're having dinner with Fink and Sarah at Blue Moon. I'm looking forward to the Sangria and spending time with our Holden Lifers East Coast Chapter members :)
- Tomorrow I have to come into work a bit, but hopefully Adam and I can get an early start to the day and head over to Macy's. I have to return the jacket I bought him for his birthday along with the new shoes I bought that are 2 DIFFERENT SIZES! I thought they check those things before letting you walk away with a 9.5 shoe an 7.5 shoe. Tomorrow night we're going to our friends Keith and Bathsheba's house for a Holiday Party. I'm looking forward to seeing some people that I haven't had a chance to see for quite some time.

Other than that not much new here. Looking forward to going back to MI for Christmas and Vegas for the New Year. I'm also going to Puerto Rico in January and I've given some thoughts to New years resolutions. I'm sure they'll be very similar to last years but I'm thinking about hiring a personal trainer for a month or so to at least get myself back into a routine. We'll see what 2008 has in store.

Fly me to the moon...

Adam: By the way, I’m just warning you now; if you bitch about not having an engagement ring when we’re home for Thanksgiving I will be VERY upset.
Me: OK! (pause) But haven’t you even given it some thought?
Adam: No. Why would I? We have plenty of time.

We’re on our way into the city for dinner at the Rainbow Grille. I get upset and stare out the window at a billboard advertising Chris Rock coming to Atlantic City at the entrance into the Lincoln Tunnel trying not to cry.
When Adam told me on Tuesday about out last-minute reservations at the Rainbow Room Grille in Rockefeller Center I had suspected that this was it and that maybe he would finally make an honest woman out of me. I went ahead and canceled my plans with Kendra since Adam and I hadn’t had a nice dinner with just the two of us in awhile.
Now, I’m sure that any suspicion I had was false hope and I will be flying home next week for my 5th Thanksgiving with Adam and biting my tongue at any mention of an engagement.

We arrive just in time for our 8:00pm reservation, but end up waiting for about 20 minutes until a table opens up. We’re right next to the window on the 65th floor of the GE Building looking South over midtown. I can see flashes from cameras at the observation deck of the Empire State building. The view is amazing and I text Kendra that this is probably one of the fanciest places I’ve ever been. I’m kicking myself for not wearing make up.

We order a bottle of wine and I’m surprised at how much better I’m feeling after a couple glasses. Who cares if we’re not engaged yet? I tell myself to relax and enjoy dinner, after all, Adam’s paying and I’m going to order whatever I want.

We start with salads. I order a standard mixed green salad since I’m pretty picky about my salad toppings. Adam orders a chef’s salad. They’re both fairly decent in size and I’m beginning to think that we should have just split one.

For dinner we order beef tenderloin for two. I’m glad we ordered salads because usually a two person portion is only one for Adam. The beef arrives on a large silver platter and they serve both Adam and I a very healthy amount of beef, potatoes and eggplant.

I save room for desert, as I always do. I saw our neighboring table with a piece of chocolate cake that looked fabulous. I order the chocolate cake and Adam orders raspberry sorbet.

Desert arrives, only they got mine wrong. I quickly inform them that I had chocolate cake and the waiter tells me he’s terribly sorry and it shouldn’t be very long. After the 3 glasses of wine I consumed I have to pee. Adam tells me to wait but I explain that I have to go really bad. Plus, who knows how long the chocolate cake will take. I’ve seen other pieces served but they have seemed to have forgotten mine.

I go to the bathroom. Look in the mirror; kick myself again for not wearing make up or doing my hair. I pull my hair back as it looks like the walk over left it a bit tussled.

When I sit down to the table my cake still hasn’t arrived, however, I see our waiter in the distance carrying what looks to be my desert and clear a spot for it right in front of me. The waiter sets the desert down and steps back.

Wait… what’s that say?

“Abbey, will you marry me?” is written in chocolate around the edge of the plate.

The waiter snaps a picture. My mouth drops and I look over to see Adam reaching into his jacket for a small velvet pouch. He pulls out a ring.

He verbally asks me. I’m speechless

“I didn’t hear you say yes. Does this mean yes?” Adam asks, gesturing to my already extended left hand.

“Yeah… uh, I mean, yes”

He puts the ring my finger. It’s a perfect fit. It’s gorgeous. People are clapping and he leans in to kiss me as the waiter snaps another picture. The waiter sets the camera back down on the table. Adam must have given it to him while I was in the bathroom. The waiter returns with 2 glasses of champagne and congratulates us. Now I'm wishing that I had gotten a manicure.

Adam reaches over and grabs a strawberry from my plate. I’m still too shocked to eat. People are still looking on at our table. I take short glances at the ring on my finger, too embarrassed to stare at it like I want to. I start questioning Adam: Does my parents know? Do your parents know? I’m assuming Kendra was in on this? How long have you had this planned? When did you get the ring?

He tells me that he called my parents on Tuesday to get their blessing. His parents have no idea. Kendra was in on it and has known since September. He didn’t go to work today and he’s been running around all day. He picked up the ring and brought an overnight bag into the city for the hotel he has for the night.

After dinner we walk to our hotel around the corner. I call Adam’s parent’s first, then Kendra. Kendra tells me to call my mom since she’s already called her twice asking if she’d heard from me yet. I call my grandma, my sister, 2 of my co-workers, my boss, my aunt, Adam’s brother and everyone else I could get a hold of.

By 1:00am Adam’s passed out. I’m starting to get tired but there are so many other people I want to call and text. My phone is dying. I’m tired but I’m too excited to sleep like a 6 year old on Christmas Eve. I finally doze off but wake up numerous times throughout the night. I turn the reading light on, look at my ring then glance over at Adam sleeping peacefully next to me. There’s no doubt in my mind. I am the luckiest girl in the world.

Oh how I love Fridays!

I've come to the conclusion that I'm pretty much useless on Friday's. It's not that I don't have 100 things I could be doing, it's just that it's Friday and there's lots of other more important things on my mind. For example: What am I going to drink tonight? How many pitchers of beer will we consume at Blondies tomorrow for the last MSU football game of the season? Can I beat medium on GH3? What should I pack for my trip home next week? Oh... Thanksgiving is next week!!! Looks like I'll be useless Monday through Wednesday of next week too :)

30 months as an adult

Next week will mark exactly 2 years and 6 months of living in NJ. Although I was on my own during my 4 years at Michigan State, I didn't have any of the financial responsibility of being an adult as I was fortunate enough to have parents that paid for my tuition and room and board. So since I'm in a particularly emotional mood, I decided to come up with a list of things that I've discovered in my 30 months of officially living as an "ADULT"

-No matter how old you are, there are times in your life when you just want your mom (i.e. when you're in the hospital ER by yourself 600 miles away from "home").

-Automobiles in general are a huge waste of money. Between car payments, insurance, gas, oil changes and the $800.00 annual tune-up that the service manager cons you into getting because you have a vagina, it's just too much!

-No one is going to change unless they want to. You must learn to accept people with their flaws and know that they may always be like that. No one is perfect.

-No matter how shitty of a day you're having, there's someone else that's having an even more terrible day... and while you may think things can't get any worse, they always can.

-There isn't a monetary value for your time. Work hard and play hard and hope that Saturday and Sunday provide enough time for you to rest and have fun because you won't get to do either during the work week.

-There's a lot to be said about having your childhood best friend within visiting distance. I don't know where I'd be without her.

-Just because you sleep in the same bed as someone doesn't mean you have a relationship. It's important to make time for one another and do things together, even everyday things like laundry and grocery shopping.

-The mentality in the midwest is completely different than the east coast. Even 2.5 years later I still have a hard time figuring people out and I still miss "home".

TGIMFF!

Seriously, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this week is the last in my 3 week streak from hell. I'm proud of myself for not breakingdown, at least not completely. I'm not going into any specifics because I don't want to even think about all the chaos that occured, I just want to focus on this weekend and catching up on my sleep and just relaxing.
I've been house/dog sitting since Wednesday. It's been nice to catch up on my laundry and just lounge around. Tomorrow I'm thinking about heading to Palisades Mall with Kendra and Adam to watch the MSU game at the new BW3's that just opened there. I've been looking forward to the boneless spicy garlic wings all week :)
Oh, and my cousin Holly is officially famous... at least around 13 & Woodward she is. Check out her billboard below, pretty cool. Go Holly!

OMG-WAW

For months now Kendra and I have been turning everyday phrases into acronyms. Some, like the one above, "Oh My God, What a Week", are almost easier to say the full phrase rather than the shortened version, but either way they're fun and you'll begin to see more in my blog.
Anyways, acronyms or not, my life has been nothing short of choas the past couple weeks. Last week I spent Monday, Tuesday and Friday out of the office traveling for work. I didn't find out about my Friday trip until Thursday, so I was stuck at the office until 10:00pm on Thursday night attempting to catch up and plan for the week ahead.
Unfortunately this week hasn't provided much relief and the past couple days have been just as busy as last week. I don't know if it's the amount of work that I have to do, or if it's that everything seems to be crashing down... either way I have not been a happy camper and have looked to other resources for relaxing at night.
I usually was able to come home, watch TV, eat dinner and read a couple chapters before going to bed. Lately I've been very anxious and stressed when I get home from work so on Sunday I bought Guitar Hero III (GH3) for my Wii to help keep my mind off work and occupy some of my evening (the few hours that I have of it).
I didn't think I would be able to concentrate or play GH3 for long periods of time (ADD will do that to you), but I found myself playing for most of the day on Sunday and a couple hours each night this week so far. I'm also fortunate enough to have 2 friends who have GH3 for Wii and we can play live online, which gets me all excited in a goofy way.
It's totally nerdy and not very characteristic of me to be so involved in a video game, but I'm glad there's something that can help calm me down after a long day (or week) of work. Right now I'm looking forward to spending all weekend playing GH3, watching football, eating buffalo wings (going to hit up the new BW3's that opened in Palisades Mall on Saturday) and throwing back a couple of good beers. If I didn't have a vagina I would question my sexuality- lol :)

Happy Halloween!

I haven't had time for a real post lately, but I wanted to post some pictures from Kendra's Halloween Party before Christmas- lol.

Kendra as Strawberry Shortcake and me as Rainbow Brite

This was the dress that came with Kendra's costume. It definately would have been too short on her

Me with my star shaped "magic-wand" that I made at work :)

Rainbow Brite showing off her Hula skills

Close up shot of Kendra and I

Me goofing around with Mason's camera- I think it's a hot pic

End of night- fast asleep. Notice where Kendra decided to snuggle up :)

Just one of those days... Errr, Weeks

Have you ever been so tired, so overworked, so stressed, so anxious and so frustrated you feel like you're going to snap at any minute, but then something else happens and before you can vent or let it all out, you're back to the panic mode and never get the chance? I've felt like this all week. Work has been extremely busy, and just when I think nothing else could go wrong, it does.
Last night I was at the office until 9:00pm and all I wanted to do was go home, lie in bed and cry. Not for any particular reason, just because I wanted to let it all out, and it's been awhile since my last meltdown. With so much going on, I feel numb. I feel like I'm watching myself run around like the energizer rabbit but on fast forward and after 10 red bulls.
I just have to get through today, and tomorrow morning (I really hate working on Saturdays), then I'll be fine. But consider this a warning, something will make me snap, and it's going to be the dumbest thing, but nevertheless I can feel it coming...

I spoke too soon...

The past couple days have been chilly, rainy and dreary. My work week has been insanely busy and the weekend cannot come quick enough.
I did however get the majority of my Halloween costume together which always makes me happy. I love picking out a character and getting all the components of my costume ready. The real fun will come on Saturday night at Kendra's house when we attend her 2nd annual pumpkin carving party and unveil our costumes. I don't want to give away details of my costume, but since Halloween always provides an excuse for me to dress a bit on the sleezy side the recent cold weather will NOT be appreciated with my costume. Look for updates and photos from the party next week.

Beautiful Fall Weekend

I'm still waiting for the Fall weather to hit the East Coast, but in the meantime you won't hear me complaining.
Saturday provided a great day to go into the city. Cindy had bought me tickets to see Spring Awakening for my birthday so I met her in Times Square at Maxie's for lunch before the show. I love their mushroom barley soup and I've also started to really enjoy pastrami on rye, which is what Cindy and I had.
After lunch we killed some time at the M&M store across the street. As if Times Square isn't enough of a tourist trap, this store is probably one of the worst. I don't even like M&M's all that much and find them to be one of the more boring candies, however, people seem to flock to this place. They have 3 floors of M&M merchandise with everything from flip flops to christmas ornaments. They also have a huge wall with every color of M&M's where you can make your own combination. A small bag of M&M's that you could get trick or treating could easily run you over $4.00 here.
After the M&M store we headed over to the theater for the 2:00pm show. The music was amazing but it was definately much different than I imagined. It was extremely sexual and there were some points during the play where people actually walked out. The sign on the door that reads "this show is intended for mature audiences only" is is certainly meant to be taken seriously. I do reccommend seeing Spring Awakening for it's moving story line and amazing soundtrack, but don't take your underage daughter, niece, etc.
After the show I grabbed a cab up to Blondies. Michigan State was taking on THE Ohio State Buckeyes at 3:30pm. The play finished around 4:15pm, so I had plenty of time to catch the rest of the game. I made it there before halftime and found a group of girls to sit with. One of the girls, Deena, I had met at a previous watch party. It was great to talk with her more and meet more friends in the city, especially since her and I share the same love for Yogi's.
After leaving Blondies I took the train back to NJ and met Mason for a movie. We went to see "Things we Lost in the Fire" which was a good film but not as emotionally moving as I wanted. It was also very slow moving and after a long day I didn't have much patience. Nevertheless it was good to get out and have a productive day visiting with all different people and friends.
On Sunday morning I was back on the upper west side for The Wiggles in concert. I went with the kids I babysitt for and was suprised at all the songs I knew. It was great to go and see how happy it made them. After the concert I went home, ate some lunch and took a much needed nap. Adam set up the Wii he got me for my birthday and I made some delicious meatloaf for dinner. We spent the rest of the night relaxing and watching TV, which was exactly what I needed.

Birthday Weekend- Part 2

2 months ago Kendra, Amy and I planned a spur of the moment trip to Florida. The idea was to get away for my birthday and visit with Amy who we don't get to see very often. After checking flights and confirming we could stay with Kendra's parents, all of our flights were booked within hours. I felt proud of myself for making a weekend commitment 2 months in advance, and just buying my ticket moments after we decided it might be a good idea.
I'm always hesitant to get geeked about something because when you build it up for 2 months like we did, it usually ends up in a disappointment. This was definitely not the case with our mini vacation. After weeks of counting down the days, hours and minutes, we were finally all in Florida, together.
After torrential downpours in the NYC area, flights out of Newark were delayed for hours. Luckily, I was one of the later flights so my flight only ended up being delayed an hour or so. Amy and Kendra had taken earlier flights, which weren't delayed so Kendra's parents picked them up around 9:00pm and then were kind enough to drive back to the airport to pick me up when my flight landed around 1:00am. Once we got back to Kendra's parents house we were all tired so we visited for awhile and then went to bed.
On Saturday we started our day at a small beach near Kendra’s parent’s house. The weather was gorgeous and the water was warm. The beach has this super low key restaurant and bar on the beach. People walking around in their bathing suits, dancing, sitting at picnic tables… it was just comfortable and I didn’t feel self conscious or disgusting like I did when I went down the shore.

After the beach Kendra, Amy and I went to get a manicure and pedicure. Amy had never had a pedicure, and when Kendra’s mom came to pick us up and told me she hadn’t either, we all told her to sit down and pick a color.

That evening Kendra’s mom cooked a Greek feast and a delicious Italian cake. Kendra’s brother Jesse got us ready for a night out with some Long Islands with our meal and Kendra opened her bottle of Duck Walk Chardonnay for us to drink while we all got ready to go out. After getting ready and having a small pre-bar dance party in Kendra’s parent’s living room we were on our way to a small locals bar less than 2 miles away.

It was such a great night! Kendra’s parents stuck around for awhile, and I’m sure saw all of us in unique form, including a Karaoke performance of “Living on a Prayer” that will go down in history.

On Saturday we planned on going to Clearwater beach, but since we didn’t get up until noon, we decided to just go to St. Pete Beach which was a bit closer and would provide us with more quality sun time.

That evening we went to Olive Garden for the Never Ending Pasta Bowl, a longtime fall tradition for Amy, Kendra and I. Several years back I accused Amy of being a disgrace and going to an all you can eat event and barely eating 1 bowl. The game was on and Amy, who’s literally ½ my size bet that she could out eat me. Once we arrived to the restaurant the haggling began and we both put our game faces on. We drank water instead of soda, and tried to skimp on the breadsticks to leave room for the massive amount of carbs we were about to consume. As much as I hate to admit it, Amy beat me. Unfortunately, Amy was not the winner and our unranked opponent, Brenda (aka Kendra’s mom) beat us both.

That night we were so full that none of us were sure we even had room for beverages, but after getting dropped off at Martini Bar in downtown St. Pete we were ready for night #2.
The real excitement of Saturday night came after closing time when we hit the streets. We ran into Batman

And a guy who was very proud of his shirt (does anyone know what Sneaker Head is?)

And finally Amy got us all onto the Puddle of Mudd tour bus where we sat and chatted with the bands bassist, Doug Ardito. We didn’t however know he was the bands bassist until the next morning when we were reliving the night’s events.

On Sunday we woke up to a great breakfast spread and situated ourselves by the pool. We spent the afternoon lounging around, swimming, snacking, and just enjoying our last day in Florida.
I seriously cannot wait to go back to Florida and do it again soon...hopefully very soon! Cheers!

Ciocia

I was trying to beat Kendra to a Florida posting, but since she beat me, I'll take my time on the Florida update and use this post as a shout out to my Ciocia. She called me last night and mentioned that I hadn't mentioned her gifts in my Birthday posting. So, to let her know how much I do LOVE my presents, and the fact that she's probably one of 5 people who actually read my blog (who am I kidding? I think it's more like 3 if you include myself!), I'm going to dedicate a post all to her so she knows how much she's appreciated.
For any non-polocks, Ciocia means Aunt. When I say Ciocia, I'm refering to my Aunt Theresa, my god-mother, my mothers best friend, and my only Polish Aunt. Many of my earlist childhood memories include her and my cousin Melanie. When I got a little older my ciocia moved to Florida, and it provided a nice vacation spot for me and my sister through the years. If there was something I couldn't talk to my mom about, or a conflict in my family, I would run to ciocia. She was always been there for my sister, my mom and I thoughout the years even when she was thousands of miles away.
When I moved to NJ and my sister left for college my ciocia moved back to Michigan. It has worked out well for both my mom and my ciocia since their visits are more regular. My mom is always happiest with her around and she understands my mom like no one else. They're the sister that neither of them had and they've been with each other through everything, the highs and the lows.
Thank you Ciocia for my wonderful Bithday presents and for being my constant role model for what friendship is all about. Love you lots!

Double Dozen!

Well I'm officially 24 years old. I don't feel any different and although from the outside I don't look any different I'm sure I've changed a lot over the past year. It's crazy to think that my mom was already married and pregnant with me at 24.
This past weekend Adam's parents and my mom came to visit. Adam's parents arrived Saturday afternoon just in time to watch the second half of the MSU football game. I didn't get to catch the end of the game as I was already on my way to the airport to pick up my mom. I guess I didn't miss much as the Spartans lost their 1st home game against Northwestern in overtime. Once I picked up my mom we met up with Adam and his parents and had dinner at Blue Moon.

On Sunday morning we headed out east to visit Kendra and the LI Wineries. The traffic getting to/from Kendra's apartment in Port Jefferson was smooth sailing, except getting to the wineries from Port Jefferson was a nightmare. It seemed that everyone in the tri-state area was heading to the North Fork to go on hay rides, go apple picking, pumpkin picking, etc. We finally arrived at the Martha Clara winery and enjoyed our lunch sitting outside with a bottle of one of their white table wines.

Martha Clara also has a sunflower field where you can pick your own sunflowers so we decided to take some pictures surrounded by the flowers

After Martha Clara we headed to Roanoke, which is Kendra's winery. I've grown very fond of their 2006 De Rosa Rosé, and we were able to enjoy a couple bottles on the patio before it got too cold or too late.

After Roanoke we headed back towards Port Jefferson and had dinner at one of my favorite LI restaurants, Amici. We were pretty wined out by dinner time so we stuck with water and enjoyed our dinner. I had a grilled chicken pesto pasta with pignoli nuts in a Basil, garlic cream sauce. It was so good!

After dropping Kendra back at her apartment we headed back to NJ to open presents from Adam's family. I got some really great stuff including a Michigan State Scrapbook, a 25th anniversary Care Bear with a silver nose and Swarovski crystal eyes, a LOVE Mickey silver charm and cash money to get my own personalized license plate (Adam recently got a NJ license plate that says MICHST8, and I hate to admit that after it arrived, I was pretty jealous).

On Monday morning it was back to work, but my mother joined Mason, Cindy and I at the Cheesecake factory for lunch.

After lunch I headed back to the office to finish up my work so I could spend the afternoon with my mom. We headed to the mall where my mom bought me some cute dresses and shirts, which I will be bringing with me to Florida this weekend :) After shopping we went to dinner at the Polish Kitchen. It's a small hole in the wall type of place by our apartment, but seeing as my Mom and Adam are both Polish and I haven't been there with either of them, I figured it was a nice low-key choice.

Tuesday was my official Birthday, even though we had been celebrating it since Saturday. I dropped my mom off at the airport in the morning and made my way to work. We went to one of my favorite Peruvian Chicken restaurants for lunch and Mason spoiled me with flourless chocolate cake and chocolate cupcakes in the
afternoon.

After work I headed into the city for dinner at Carmine's with Adam, Walt, Fink, Sarah, Kendra and Mason.

Sarah and Matt bought me a very cool HAPPY BIRTHDAY ceramic plate that everyone signed (Keith is proudly displaying it below).

The food was delicious as always, and the desert was GINORMOUS!

It was a great birthday and I couldn't have asked for anything more...

Special Day

I love my Birthday. Not only because I get presents, but because it's the one day that no matter who you are, you always feel extra special. It's only 10:00am and already I have countless voicemails, emails and text messages. Not to mention that I got to spend the weekend with Adam's parents and my mom (official weekend and birthday update to follow).
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world today! Thank you to everyone in advance for remembering my special day...I wish everyday were my birthday!

It's October already!?

If you stepped outside the past couple days it certainly doesn't feel like the days leading up to my birthday. The weathers been absolutely gorgeous and I'm certainly not complaining. I was thinking the weather would be getting chilly here, so my trip to Florida next weekend would be a good way to escape back to Summer, but instead I'll just look forward to a weekend of decent tanning and beaching with some of my favorite people.
This past week has been a little chaotic. This past weekend Kendra and I spent a fair amount of time in the city. After a very long, but fun weekend, I was looking forward to a low key week of work and lounging around. I've spent more than my fair share of time at the office this week, and with a co-worker being on vacation there's a lot more work to be done. I also found out Wednesday that I would be going to Ohio Thursday which meant a late Wednesday night at the office. It was nice to know I wasn't alone, as me and some other co-workers ordered food in around 7:00pm that evening.
Mason was kind enough to come over last night after we landed and pulled some of my music off Adam's still broken computer. Mason has some suggestions as to how to get it back up and running but I'll leave that up to Adam... for now, I'm just happy to have some of my tunes back.
I'm totally geeked for this weekend because I get to see my Mom. Her birthday was this past Tuesday (don't worry Mom, I won't share how old you are... at least not publicly on the internet), so HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMOOOO! Anyways, since my birthday is this coming Tuesday (there are still 3 shopping days left) I booked her a flight to come out to celebrate our birthdays together. As an added bonus Adam's parents will be visiting as well, which usually means lots of eating, drinking and goodies :) On Sunday we'll be heading out to Long Island to visit Kendra Jean and some of the wineries that we enjoy so much! I'm planning on taking a 1/2 day on Monday and spending the afternoon with my mom doing girly things... shopping, shopping and more shopping!
As I previously mentioned, I'm going to Florida next weekend. I'll actually be leaving Thursday night, which will give me 3 full days of fun in the sun! Amy was looking at bathingsuits online today, and with some of the sale prices I may just have to buy another... I deserve it, right? Hopefully my work load will decrease next week because I'm really hoping to not be attached to my cell phone and laptop at the beach!

Touch Me

Yes, I really did that to my iPod. Yes, I know I'm a dork.

Wacky Wednesday

Actually it's not been that Wacky, but I certainly feel it. For whatever reason I felt like I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I spent all morning being bitter and crabby for no apparent reason (well maybe there were a couple, but nothing I should be upset/care about). I needed to get out of the office and eat. Sometimes I think just being inside all day is enough to drive me crazy. Mason and I went out for lunch and stopped by Best Buy on the way back to the office. I picked up the new Rascal Flatts CD, which totally made my day. Right now I'm ripping all the songs onto my new TM (Touch Me) and looking forward to the drive home, windows down, jamming to my new tunes. I'm such a geek like that...

Happy early Birthday to Me!

I bought it. I've been holding out for a new iPod ever since my Nano went on the fritz last year. I saw the Apple promo for the iPod touch and I was sold. I saw the 8 Gig model on sale last week in Columbus, but all the 16 gig models had come and gone, so I behaved myself and waited. Less than one week later and $426.93 poorer, I'm the proud owner of a 16 gig iPod Touch Me.

So far I'm pretty happy with the my purchase and after spending the last 2 hours loading it with whatever music I had on disc (poor timing as Adam's computer crashed with all my music this past weekend) and on my work computer, I'm up and running. Mason was kind enough put some movies from his iPhone on my iPod so I think I'm off to a good start.

September is flying by...

After a trip to Ohio this past Tuesday, and a hectic end to the work week, I was ready for the weekend. With plans for Friday night and Saturday I was promptly out the door at 5:00pm Friday afternoon to get a manicure and pedicure to start my weekend right.
I made it home around 6:30 with enough time to change and make myself look presentable for dinner. Adam and I drove to our friends house in Clifton and then drove together to the Ruth's Chris in Weehawkin. They had an amazing deal going on for restaurant week where you got a salad, your steak (I got a filet), a side dish and desert for $35.00. The steak was phenomenal and our waiter informed us that Eli Manning was sitting several tables away. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see him but just knowing he was several yards away is enough of a celebrity siting for me.
After dinner we headed home and being that we were so full and content we fell asleep around 11:00pm.
Saturday we got up and headed into the city with Fink and Sarah with plans to meet up with Kendra and tailgate in Central Park with the other NYC Alums. The second we stepped out of the Subway @ 86th the clouds opened up and it started to pour. We decided against going to Central Park since the rain didn't seem like it was going to let up anytime soon. Instead we made our way over to Blondies early and grabbed a table before the hordes of people arrived. We got food and drinks and the party was underway. By the time the game actually started at 3:30pm, we were at least 8 pitchers deep and excited for what turned out to be a great game. The Spartans beat the Fighting Irish and are now 4-0 for the season. This upcoming weekends game against Wisconsin will arguably be their most difficult game, but I'm hoping that we can again pull off another win. Kendra and I will meet you at Blondies...

The best looking table at Blondies :)

On Sunday, Adam and I went to Costco, Trader Joe's, did laundry and picked up around the house. I also started on "A Thousand Splendid Suns" which is turning out to be even better than Khaled Hosseini's first Novel "The Kite Runner." I'm actually looking forward to getting home and going to the park to read. Is it just me or isn't reading so much more enjoyable when you're outside?
Other than tonight it seems I have a pretty exciting week and weekend to look forward to. I'm planning on catching a movie w/ Adam tomorrow night, babysitting on Wednesday and Friday night, going into the city w/ Kendra on Saturday and going to see "Across the Universe" on Sunday. I'm pretty geeked for the week/weekend ahead and it's only Monday!

Semi-Relaxing Weekend

On Friday night I went out for a much needed drink with some friends from work. Adam and Walt ended up meeting up with us since Adam had dropped my car off at the dealership and forgot to pick it up. We made it home fairly early for a Friday night and got to bed early enough that I was up by 7:00am on Saturday.
Saturday morning we went out for Breakfast and picked up my car. I had Adam take my car in for an oil change on Friday and also to complain that when they resurfaced my routers last month it didn't seem to work as my wheel was still shaking/vibrating when I would break at high speeds. So he takes it in, and when I go to pick it up they had replaced my routers at no charge (well I guess it was kinda no charge since I had just paid $300.00 for the original work to be done). Anyways, I was happy and it looks like Adam will be taking my car in for all of its work. I really hate how service shops try to screw women!
After picking up my car we went to the mall before it got to be too packed. I picked up a couple things and we headed home to watch the MSU game. Sarah and Fink came over and we watched the Spartans win their 3rd game of the season (it was a little too close of a game, but I'm glad we pulled it off). We also watched UofM kill ND which didn't make us too happy.
Saturday night I had to babysitt and then I came home and tried to go to bed. Adam was in the city with Walt so I was up worrying about him for most of the night, but since I had a fairly relaxing day it didn't seem to effect me too much since I was up around 7:00am on Sunday.
I got a pretty early start to my day on Sunday and took the Ferry into the city to meet up with Justin and Kendra. We ended up having lunch and then heading into midtown to meet up with Justins friend Yoav. We hung out and got Mexican food for dinner. I wish I was feeling better otherwise I probably would have ate more. I think stress, being sick and other things have made me a little nauseous lately, but I'm sure that will get better with time. It ended up being a really fun day and I'm glad I decided to do something yesterday so my weekend wasn't a complete wash.
Tomorrow I'm heading to Ohio for work, but the rest of the week looks pretty open. I'm looking forward to Satruday when we're going into the city to tailgate and watch the MSU/ND game. Lets hope the Spartans can make it 4-0 this weekend...

University of Michigan

What size battery does it take to shock a Wolverine?

1-AA

Two weeks later and it still doesn't get old. Maybe it's the fact that just this past weekend Michigan lost to Oregon in it's worse loss since 1968. Either way I'm happy. Go Blow!

iPod Touch Me

For my birthday I'm going to be buying an iPod Touch as a Happy Double Dozen Bithday present for myself. Since Verizon doesn't offer the iPhone, this seems like the next best thing and ever since my nano broke over a year ago I've been holding out for something that could take its place. I'm very geeked about my new iPod and will be counting down the days until September 28th when it goes on sale.
For those of you who may be reading this and noticing that there are only 25 short days left until my Birthday (Mom, this means you), please feel free to make a cash (or check) donation to me which will be put towards my highly anticipated 16GB iPod Touch Me.

Sick

It's only the beginning of the day on Wednesday and I'm dying for it to be the weekend. I woke up at 5:00am with bad congestion that is still bothering me. I want to curl up in my bed with a good book and let the cool September breeze and sunshine in through the window. I want to fall asleep and not have to worry about emails and meetings. I want to eat grilled cheese and watch Price Is Right all morning (is that show still on now that Big Bob is retired?).
But here I sit, at work, tired and sick and wanting to be anywhere else...

Carl visits!

This past weekend one of my closest friends from high school came to visit. Carl has been Kendra and I's friend since 9th grade. He's one of the funniest people I know and my favorite Pacific Islander!
Anyways, Carl flew in Friday afternoon with his friend from K-Zoo, Marc. After getting stuck in traffic on the Tri-boro bridge on my way to LaGuardia and then getting stuck on the Major Deegan on our way back to my apartment, Carl and Marc arrived safely into NJ around 8:00pm. We picked up a couple pies and some beer and begun our weekend together at my apartment. After much deliberation about what to do that night we decided to venture into the city to kick off our weekend.
We introduced Carl to one our our favorite spots in the city, Kevin St. James (KSJ as we commonly refer to it). After grabbing some drinks there and filling our stomachs with drunk munchies we were on our way back to NJ. It was an early night for us, but we knew we had a pretty busy weekend ahead of us.
On Saturday we got ready and headed into the city again. We ate lunch at another one of our favorite places in NYC, Burritoville. There are several small Burritoville locations throughout the city and every person Kendra or I have brought there has not been disappointed. After lunch we met up with our friends Fink and Sarah at Dave and Busters. I'm not a huge fan of spending the afternoon inside playing video games but we were sweaty and gross and the air conditioning felt great. We played lots of games and Sarah and I even hit the big wheel spot for 1,000 tickets. The beers were big and decent priced, and super refreshing. They went down so smooth and it turned out to be such a fun afternoon. We spent our "winnings" on some shot glasses, pint glasses and "grillz". I ended up leaving the shot glasses and pint glasses at a bar later in the night, but Carl and Marc kept their grillz and I'm hoping they can make an excellent edition to their Halloween costumes.
After leaving Dave and Busters we headed back to Hoboken for dinner and to meet up with a couple more of our NJ friends. We were all pretty worn out but it felt good to eat. My friend Jodi met up with us. She's been in Key West all summer so it was good to catch up. Our friend Walt also met up with us. Carl and Marc were pretty tired, but they rallied and we ended up catching the last train from Hoboken back to my apartment.
On Sunday I drove Marc, Carl and Kendra out to Port Jefferson. On our way our East we stopped by one of Kendra's favorite restaurants (if you can even call it a restaurant) in Roslyn. Hummus World's menu is simple. The food is fabulous, and the traffic is never ending. There were a minumum of 15 people crammed into this small eatery at all times. They were featured in the NY Times last year and since then they've gotten many more loyal customers. I'm pretty sure you can add my name to that list!
After lunch we went to a couple wineries (see my previous post) and then grabbed dinner and desert (Ralph's Italian Ice... yum) back in Port Jefferson.
I'm pretty sure Carl had a good time visiting. It was great to catch up with an old friend and I hope he didn't mind eating and drinking his way through NY and NJ!
