Wedding Pictures

Fink & Sarah's Wedding weekend

This past weekend Adam and I headed back to MI for Fink & Sarah's wedding. Because we procrastinated in purchasing the tickets we had to fly out of JFK to get a flight for under $500. I took a half day at work on Friday so that we could catch the 4:00 flight. Driving into the city to go to the airport is quite a pain in the ass, but JFK was actually a really nice airport. We parked in the economly lot and took a shuttle bus to the airtrain station. We got to the airport with plenty of time. Our flight arrived into Detroit on time and I my mom and sister picked us up. I was so excited to see my mom. I'm not sure if I saw my parents this much when I was in college, but I was only 1 & 1/2 hours away, so it was nice to know if I wanted to see my family, I could. Now, it's definately not as easy, but I get so excited to see everyone. We hung out with my parents on Friday and got up early to get ready for the wedding.
The wedding was in East Lansing at 1:30, and when we arrived to Kellogg at noon our room wasn't ready. We ended up going to Emily and Mike's hotel room to change and get ready. It felt like 11F all over again, all 4 of us in 1 bathroom.
The ceremony was gorgeous, and Sarah looked so beautiful. We were all pretty geeked about the reception, and I couldn't wait to hang with everyone. I miss all of our friends in Michigan, and maybe one day we'll move back there. The reception was gorgeous, and the "surprise guest" ended up coming at around 9:00pm. Sparty came all the way back from Indiana, and stayed for long enough to do the Macarena (god, I hate that song), air guitar with Jason, and get pictures with everyone. I'll be sure to post them as soon as I get them off Adam's computer.
On Sunday we went to breakfast with Aaron (Adam's brother), Emily and Mike before we headed back to St. Clair Shores for Ashley's birthday celebration.
My mom made a fabulous dinner for everyone, complete with a Hodell's cherry chip birthday cake. Ashley got some awesome gifts and it was good just to be at home with my family... I can't wait for the holidays!!!
That's about all. This week has been pretty uneventful, and with Adam being gone this weekend I don't know what I'm going to do. I told Jim it was his job to keep me occupied as I will go crazy if I have to sit at home alone for anymore than 10 minutes. Tomorrow night is the OC an after missing last weeks episode, I'm looking forward to tomorrow nights show. I'll be sure to post several times in the next week, as I'll have plenty of time to occupy myself. I will try to post pictures from this past weekend too... maybe the one of Adam and I with Sparty!

Midweek Update

This past weekend certainly did the trick. I had so much fun in the city on Friday and Saturday. It was great to see Skippy, and show him around the city. I gave him and his business partner, Lenny, a tour of all the city has to offer. On Friday night we made our way to Times Sqaure and stopped at 4 bars during our round-trip journey. That night, Skippy, myself and Adam all slept together in the king bed Skippy had at the Parker Meridian hotel in Manhattan. We probably would have all slept in a double bed if that's what he had, but luckily we didn't have any problem fitting. On Saturday Lenny and Skip wanted to go to Canal Street, Little Italy and Wall St. We were going to start with Wall St. but that didn't work out too well when we got on the wrong Subway (my fault). We made our way back to Canal, and went to get some purses. Quite an experience... Anyways, we made our way to/from our destinations without any further delays, and 6 purses, and 150 bucks later Adam and I were on the train back to NJ.
I was extremely crabby because we hadn't eaten since noon, and the meal hardly counted as lunch because the portions were so tiny. We finally made it back to Jersey around 6:00pm, and decided that we would probably just stay in as we were exhausted. We went to the Allendale Bar and Grille for dinner, and then hit the sack. I think we were in bed by 10:00pm.
Sunday we went to 9:30am mass, which apparently is the childrens mass. I've never in my life seen children act so terribly in church (hmm... I wonder who I sound like). But seriously, the boy next to me had to be no older than 3 (he was still in diapers) and he kept punching his brother in the face. When the mother tried to handle the situation, he slugged her in the jaw. Church or no church, I think I would have killed him right then and there. Anyways, the remainder of the day was spent washing cars, and cleaning up. We also watched "Batman Begins" which is an excellent movie.
Monday was Halloween and I went to Jim's house for dinner and to chill. It was a good time, and I hope I didn't offend his family too much.
Yesterday was All Saints Day which allowed for another trip to church. I grabbed dinner with Jim, and headed to Adam's for a bit before coming home.
I am so exhausted today... and I don't think this weekend will offer much time to catch up on my sleep. We're heading home to Detroit on Friday afternoon, and have a wedding on Saturday. I went to the mall to look for a new dress, but have pretty much decided that because of financial limitations, I will probably wear one of the hundreds I already have. On Sunday we're going to celebrate Ashley's birthday... I hope she likes her gift. I'm getting my nails done tomorrow, and can't wait for the OC to return tomorrow as well. Looks like tonight is laundry night...
That's about all for now, hopefully I'll have some pictures from the wedding this weekend to post in my next blog.

"If you start out depressed everything's kind of a pleasant surprise"

That's a quote from one of my favorite movies, Say Anything. I haven't written lately, and I really have had no desire to. This whole week I've been pretty down. I don't know why, maybe because it's getting cold out, maybe it's PMS, maybe work, whatever it is, I'm hoping it'll pass soon.
This past weekend was pretty uneventful. Adam and I were supposed to go home for the Homecoming game, but decided not to when we couldn't find cheap airfare. We're going home next weekend for Fink and Sarah's wedding, so we figured that was more important than going home and watching the Spartans blow it. And blow it is quite the understatement... I think we turned the game off when the score was 42-7, and we didn't have 42. Adam made a comment that we would have been pretty pissed to go all the way home to see that game... so it's a good thing we stuck around Jersey.
On Monday Cindy and I flew back to Michigan for an appointment. We took a flight which connected in Chicago, which made the simple trip an all day event. I woke up at 4:30, in order to be in the car by 5:30, for our 7:45am flight. After having an hour delay, running through 2 airports, and 3 flights we were all boarded and on our final flight from Chicago to Detroit. After waiting an hour and a half on the runway we were finally in the air. About 1/2 way through the trip we began to hit some turbulance. The captain came on and ordered the flight crew to stop the beverage service and take their seats. Because of the horrible weather at Newark we had to circle the area until we could get cleared for landing. It felt like a 60 minute roller coaster ride, and when the stewardess came on saying "in case of an emergency landing, please remember to leave all carry on luggage on the plane" we knew we were in trouble. Now I think about her comment and realize that all it did was get everyone on that plane even more worried than we already were, and besides, I don't think I'll be thinking about my carryon luggage as we're plummiting toward the ground. Needless to say, it was an interesting, long, tiring trip and my bed never felt so good.
This weekend Skippy is going to be in NYC, so tomorrow night Adam and I are going into the city to hang out and stay with him in his hotel room. On Saturday we're going to take Skip and his buddy, Lenny around. I'm looking forward to this weekend and I couldn't be happier that tomorrow is Friday. Hopefully spending time with Skip this weekend might improve my mood. It's nice to have someone to visit with. I can't wait for my family to visit again. I've been really missing them lately. I don't know if it's the cold weather, but my little house on Carolina always felt warmer... but I suppose it was just the people in it.
"Another winter day has come
And gone away
And even Paris and Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home
And I'm surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
Oh, let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know"

Ugh... is tomorrow really Monday?

I hate Mondays! Actually, I probably hate Sunday nights more... I hate knowing that tomorrow morning I have to get up, shower, and go to work. And the worst part about it, is knowing that you have to do it for 5 days!!!! It's not that I hate work, I just hate getting up for work. I look forward to every Friday and I count down the days/hours until the next weekend. Well, this past weekend came and went. This weekend gave Adam and I more time to explore the city and just relax. On Friday after work I went to have a drink with Kevin and Mason from work. I love going out to just shoot the shit and have a couple beers. After 2 beers, a basket of wings and playing some SNOOD, I headed home to gather some clothes and go to Adam's for the night. I think I was asleep by 10:00pm, which felt great.
On Saturday morning we walked to the train station and took the 9:40am train to Penn Station for the noon football game at Blondies. We got there a little early and had polished off 20 wings by kickoff... Blondies has the best wings!!!! After an upseting loss to Ohio State we headed out. I was pretty wasted, so we killed some time in the park. We then headed over to Heartland Brewery in Times Square, and Adam had some fabulous micro brewed beer, while I stuck to water. After that, we killed some time at ESPN zone. We were meeting Jim and some of the guys in Hoboken later that night, so we had a couple hours to kill. I kicked Adam's ass in the shooting game, and the racing game. After blowing enough money on video games we headed back to Jersey. It took a while for our friends to get to Hoboken, and I was exhausted by 10:00pm. We took the 1:45 train home, and were in bed by 2:45. Luckily today we just took it easy. I wanted to get some laundry done and clean, but I accomplished neither. Over the past week I've felt like I've been coming down with a cold... and after last night, it has officially arrived. I didn't feel like doing much all day today, but I did put my clothes (and Adams) in my car to wash tomorrow after work (I like the laundromat by my work much better anyways).
After taking an afternoon nap, I'm not too tired yet. I think I'll shower and maybe read a little bit before bed. I hope with rest and some Vitamin C I can kick this cold by mid week! It was a great weekend, but I'm definately not ready for work tomorrow... oh well.

22... not as much fun as 21!

Well, I'm officially no longer 21. As much as I hated always being younger than all my peers in school, I actually tried to find ways to tell people how old I was once I hit the real world. For the past 4 months I liked telling people I had graduated college, found a job and relocated to NJ all at the ripe age of 21! I don't know what it was, but I felt so smart and mature. Anybody who knows the real me, knows I'm very far from mature, but it's weird that when I want to I can act professional.
Anyways, my birthday was very nice. On Friday, my co-workers brought in bagels w/ cream cheese, an ice cream cake and our HR lady baked me a devils food chocolate cake and banana bread. They all also chipped in and got me a gift certificate to Borders. Everyone was so nice, and I felt extra special. On Friday after work Adam picked me up and we met his parents (who came in town for the weekend) at their hotel, and went to dinner with them. On Friday night we went to a great Bar and Grille, and I got buffalo wings and steak... I was in heaven. On Saturday, Adam and I spent the day with his parents and discovered a brewery about 35 minutes South of my place. They didn't have a huge selection, but what I tasted was great... I think we'll have to go back as they change their beers every couple weeks. After the brewery we came back to my apartment. I wish I would have cleaned a little more, but at least his parents got to see my place for the 1st time. That night we all went to a FABULOUS dinner at Bellissimos in Little Falls. It came highly reccomended and I would definately agree. It was pretty fancy and we all had drinks and appetizers. After dinner we ended up going back to Adam's parents hotel. It had been raining cats and dogs ALL DAY, and my friends didn't seem too eager to go out.... so we just stayed in with Adams parents. We had cake and I opened a bazillion presents from them!!!! We ended up spending the night at his parents hotel room because it was too nasty outside to keep driving back and forth. I was really happy that Adam's parents came in town for my birthday. It was good to see them, and I think I ate enough to get my through the week, not to mention the 1/2 of a ganache cake I still have in my fridge.
On Sunday Adam and I finally booked our trip for Christmas. We're flying into Detroit, then to Las Vegas from Detroit, then back to Detroit for the New Year, then back to Newark. If it sounds confusing that's because it is... which is probably why we put it off for so long... but now that it's all said and done, I'm very happy. I can't wait to go to Vegas. Adam's been there 2 times in the past 4 months, so Christmas will be his 3rd time this year.
For my birthday Adam got my an iPod nano. He ordered it online, and it's not here yet, but hopefully next week. We had a very relaxing day, and went to dinner and were in bed by 9:00... it was perfect.
On Monday night Adam went to dinner with some people from work so I hung out with Mason for a bit. He let me drive his new car, and we went to the mall and had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. After dinner we hung out here for a bit, and sent him home with a chunk of my birthday cake. Mason and I have been hanging out more frequently, probably because we work together and seem to walk out at the same time. He's definately one of my best friends here in Jersey and I can't wait for him to meet Kendra... they're MFEO!!!
Anyways, that's about all. I'm going to Adam's basketball game tonight and then going to attempt to make it to bed before 11:00. I'm know that's not late, but I feel like I might be coming down with something so I want to make sure to get enough rest.

22... Here I come!

I decided to update my blog to give my mother and aunt something better to do on the internet then look up sexual predators. My aunt who recently moved from Tampa to the quaint, quiet town of Marshall, MIchigan was apparently so shocked to find out that she had 28 sexual predators amoung her, that she felt the need to tell everyone, including the guy contracted to remodel her kitchen. And after recieving a demanding email to update my blog, I figured it was the least I could do for my #1 fans.
This past weekend was quite an upset for any MSU fan, let alone Adam and myself who flew in especially hoping that the Spartans could defeat the Wolverines. The rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State is one of the best parts about going to State. You can always rest assured that there will be a new creative shirt to purchase. Other the years my two favorite Anti-Michigan shirts were:
"Ann Arbor is a whore" and "Wolverines Fuck Squirels" as much as I would have loved to spend $15 for one of these quality tees, I would have loved to see my mothers face even more when she did the laundry. Needless to say, I've never bought one, but enjoy seeing everyone else wearing them. I'm not going to go into the details of the game, because the rant session could take all night, but lets say that the Spartans let me down again. They'll always be my team, but we all know we should have easily pulled off a win this year.
Even though we lost the game in overtime, it was great to see everyone. I got to see Kendra, Amy and Emily and it felt good to have 11F back together again, even if it was just for a couple hours.
On Sunday I went home and had a great joint birthday celebration w/ my family. I got to see a ton of family members this weekend, which was awesome. My mom made a phenomenal dinner, and we had great cake too. It's always so hard to say goodbye... it still feels more "home" to me than my apartment does. It's so weird to get getting on a plane w/ Adam to go home to NJ. I'm definately starting to feel more at home though, I'm developing more serious friendships and learning my way around more and more each day. I'll always be a midwestern girl, but sometimes I suprise myself with some Jerseyish comment.
This weekend Adams parents are coming to NJ to celebrate my birthday with us, which will be so nice. I can't wait for this weekend, only 1 more day :) On Sunday I'll be the big 2-2... uh-oh I'm getting old!

Back by popular demand...

It's sad when your mom and aunt have to remind you to update your blog, considering they are probably 2 of 3 people who actually read this. Anyways ladies, this one is for you.
Last weekend Adam, Kory and I went into the city to watch the Spartans take on the Fightin' Irish. At a Jets game Adam and I met the treasurer of the greater NYC MSU Alumni chapter. We found out that fellow MSU alums in the 'big apple' tailgate at central park, then head over to a bar on the upper west side of the city to watch the game together. After a 2 and a half hour journey on the train, PATH and subway we finally made it to central park a half hour before tht game began. We grabbed some "road colas" (mixing them in a telephone booth, with no telephone) and walked over to Blondies. When we arrived about 20 minutes early the bar was already packed and the back room, which is reserved for Spartans, was already full. We only had to wait about 10 minutes and we were seated, cold beers in hand to watch a great game!! The atmosphere at Blondies is the next best thing to being in EL, and you're watching your team, with fellow alums. We had so much fun screaming, cheering and chanting fight songs, I forgot we were in a bar. After the Spartans defeated the Fightin' Irish in overtime we treked back to Hoboken and met up with our very drunk friends at their last stop on an all day barcrawl. It was such a great day... we met new people and actually got out of NJ. I decided that the upper west side is my favorite part of the city, and I can't wait to go back... hopefully this weekend. Ever since I arrived in NJ 4 months ago (I can't believe it's been that long) we either went down to the shore or home for the weekend. I love the fall and it's the perfect opportunity to go exploring in the city, except for the fact that even now it seems every weekend is accounted for. I'm getting very excited to go home for the Michigan game, especially now that we beat ND. My dad is sure that the Spartans are going to pull it off, but you can never be too sure... look at last year. Anyways, it'll be nice to see everyone and my parents. We're going to celebrate my moms and I's birthday on that Sunday... I'm hoping for a BBQ in the backyard (hint hint). It's funny how I miss just being able to walk outside on the deck, or sit on the swing (well, what use to be a swing) in the backyard, and I wish I would have just "stayed at home more" like my mom always encouraged me to do when I was always on the go. Anyways, nothing too exciting to report, just thought I'd update everyone (everyone being my mom, who I speak w/ everyday, and my aunt, who my mom speaks with everyday, therefore there isn't much to update). Oh yeah, and Adam said his parents might be coming to NJ the weekend of my birthday, which will be something else to look forward to! Hope to be updating more often as I should have more time on the weekends.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

This is a shout out to Lennie and Val on their 25th wedding anniversary. Driving each other crazy for 25 years... wow! Miss you and love you both! Congrats!

What Doesn’t Kill Us, Makes Us Stronger

What a week!!! It's been forever since my last post, but I have not been in the mood or the health to be blogging online. Now that my week from hell is over (lets hope) I can finally put together my thoughts enough to write about it.
It all started about 2 weeks ago, when after weeks of using the air conditioning, I decided to open my windows, and welcome the summer breeze. The 1st night I slept with my window opened I immediately felt like I had a sore throat. Thinking it was just allergies, I decided to ignore the pain in my throat, and continue with the windows open. By Friday, I could barely swallow and decided to go to the doctor. She concluded that it was allergies, and saw NOTHING in my throat. She said that my post nasal drip could have been irritating my throat, and that's what was causing the pain. Although I could barely swallow without pain, I took the Flonase and Clarinex she reccomended and was on my way home for the weekend. I felt miserable on the plane ride to Detroit and the feeling only got worse throughout the weeked. I felt like I was freezing, but had a fever of over 102! We landed into Newark in one piece after what would have been a great weekend if I wasn't so sick! Our good friend Jim was nice enough to pick us up at the airport at 10:30 at night, and bring us back to my place. Adam had to catch a plane the next morning at 6:00, and needed to get to bed ASAP. I drove Adam home and reached the top of my stairs at 11:38pm. Just as I turned the light on, my home phone rang. On the other end was a young voice saying some disgusting things. At first I thought it was a friend of mine screwing around, so I hung up. When the caller called back about 5 times w/ a blocked caller ID, and I realized that none of my friends have my home phone number I began to freak out. I needed Adam in the worst way, and he was at home, without a car! After some coaching from my Aunt Theresa (there is no way in hell I would have called my mother at a time like that, I know better) the area police department came over, and watched me go to my car, so that I could go to Adam's house. I also filed a police report because as Val taught me "you can never be too sure." I arrived into work the next morning with a little over 3 hours of sleep and feeling worse than the previous week. I stayed at Adam's house that night, and went to bed before 8:00 because my fever wasn't going down, and I had an appointment at 11:00 the next morning. I slept like a baby, and woke up feeling just as shitty as when I laid down. I told myself that I would go into work, go to my appointment and head home right after. That morning on my drive to work on Route 46 East I saw brake lights and didn't give myself enough time or space between me and the car in front of me. CRASH. I don't know how it happened, I'm sure that when I got into the accident I must have not been "all there" but everyone was ok, and looking back that's the important thing.
At that moment I wanted my mom and dad more than anything. They've always help me deal w/ whatever problems I've had, which looking back, were not many. I wanted Kendra, or Emily or somebody to lean on, and I had nobody. I sat in my car for a good 30 minutes trying to calm myself, and figure out what to do with my insurance company. The officer finally came up to my car and said "you can go home now" and for a second I almost said "oh yeah, I don't think this car is gonna make it back to Detroit." For the first time I had to accept NJ as my home, and do things on my own.
That afternoon, at my lowest I went back to the Dr's and demanded some antibiotics or something to help me. I had been to the Dr's the previous Friday, and Tuesday, 4 days later, I had weighed almost 10 lbs lighter. I told the Dr. that this was due to the fact that I hadn't eaten in about 4 days b/c I couldn't bear the pain. Anyways, she gave me the antibiotics and I was on my way.
Today, one week later I'm feeling better. I have my appetite back, and I don't have a fever anymore. This "bug" whatever I have is finally almost gone. After being out of work for 3 days, and being in bed at 8:00 everynight, I'm feeling back to my usual self. My car may take up to 2 weeks in the body shop! I've gotten flowers and cards from so many people. I miss everyone so much, and going through this back home would have been 100 times easier, but I made it. I'm a big girl now, I can do things on my own, but I never would have made it without the love of my family and friends.
"What do I do when my love is away
Does it worry you to be alone?
How do I feel by the end of the day
Are you sad because you're on your own
No, I get by with a little help from my friends"

Still catching up from this weekend!

This past weekend Adam and I were lucky enough to have not 1, not 2, not 3 or 4, but 5 Michigan visitors. Last Thursday Adam picked up Jason, Cory and Cory's fiance Tammy from the airport. Adam spent Thursday & Friday showing them around New York City. Because I couldn't get the time off work, I wasn't able to join in their venture into the city, but am kinda glad I was sitting in a nice air conditioned office, as they were treking through the city in 90 degree heat and humidity. On Friday, I met Kendra and Amy at my apartment and we took off for the night to Amy's aunts house in Brick. I knew that Brick was only about 5 miles south of Manasquan, so I figured I could spend some time with my old roomies and meet up with the crew at the shore house on Saturday. After getting lost a couple times, we finally arrived to Aunt Abbies. Not only does Amy's aunt have the best name of all time, but a GORGEOUS home right on the bay! Quite a change from Third Ave. We ate dinner and talked with her aunt for a while before crashing at about 10:30. We were all exhausted, especially Kendra and Amy who got up at 5:00am to make the 10 hour trip to NJ. It was so nice to see them, I almost forgot that we wouldn't be returning to 11F together.
Saturday started out kinda overcast, so we stuck around Amy's aunts house until about 3:00, when we headed to Manasquan. I was concerned about the sleeping situation, but it all turned out fine. I was even more excited to find out that a very special visitor was already waiting at the house. Lucy was there and was going to be there all day and night. If it wasn't for the sandwich she found under Jim's bed, Nick probably would have let her sleep with me in their room. Adam and I gave Cory and Tammy our room so they had some privacy, and we slept on the Aerobed in Jim and Walts room. We hit the beach and hung around the house until about 10:30 when we grabbed a cab over to Jenkinsons. It was a pretty fun night, and if it wasn't for Kendra we probably would have stayed there until they closed! Anyways, we came back to the house and got some grub and went to sleep.
It was hard to say goodbye to everyone on Sunday. Being surrounded by so many friends makes me realize how lonely it is without them. I miss Kendra and Amy a ton. I've made tons of friends at the shore, but they all seem to be guys, and I miss my girls and being able to do goofy girl things. I hope everyone had an awesome time, and luckily for me, I get to see everyone again this weekend at the draft party. I can't wait!
Hopefully the next couple weeks won't be so hectic so I can update this more often. I'll post pictures from this weekend as soon as I get them!

I'm beginning to appreciate the silence

So much has happened since my last posting, probably the biggest event would have to be the visit from my family. Last Friday, Adam and I headed up to Boston. My parents were going to meet us there on Saturday evening, b/c my mom had to work Friday night. We arrived around 9:30pm, making pretty decent time considering I stopped for gas, McDonalds and hit some traffic. We arrived to the Sheraton, and checked in. Our room was at the very end of hall way and was a suite which spanned the width of the building. There were windows in every room, and we could see the Charles River and Fenway Park from our bedroom window. We had a living area, dining area, small kitchen nook, and 2 bathrooms. The room was AMAZING! Adam reminded me of a kid in a candy shop he was so excited. Andrea and her friend Dan met up with us and took us to a bar called Dick's Last resort. They made Adam wear a hat that said "2 pump chump" and me a baloon tied to my hair that said "I swallow" with an arrow pointing down to my head. Andrea said they like to pick on tourists, and I have a feeling a little bird told our waitress we were from outta town. We had a great night, and Dan was such a great guy... I think Adam would date him if he could!
The next day Andrea and Dan took us around to Fanieul Hall and Fenway Park. We visited a Brewery by the ballpark and I had a blueberry beer that had actual blueberries in it. Adam, y genius of a boyfriend said "does the blueberries come out of the tap?" I nearly died laughing until Andrea admitted that she asked the same question the 1st time she had the unique brew. My mom, dad, sister and grandma arrived that night and we all went out to dinner.
Sunday Adam and I had to head back, and my family stuck around Boston until Tuesday, when I became graced with their presence at my apartment. I have one bedroom with one bed, and I now had to figure out sleeping arragements for 4 OTHER PEOPLE! The fist night grandma slept with me in a bed, because it was better for her back. My dad, mom and sister slept on 2 air mattresses in the living room. Thank god I have a lot of floor space.
On Wednesday I had a meeting in Maryland, and my parents went to the shore to spend the night. When I got home on Wednesday night, I realized how nice it is to return to my apartment and not have 4 other people. I admit, I miss my family like crazy, and moving 11 hours away was hard, but having my own place, my own space, and privacy is priceless.
I wish there was a median, like if Adam and I lived like 2 hours away from my family, then we could go home to go laundry and for homemade meals... but I think that was what college was all about. In the end, I'm glad I'm here. Yes I miss central air, a washer and dryer, good food, and having a dog, but I think this is good for me and for my family. They'll learn to get along w/ out me, and when it's just my mom and my dad, maybe they can rekindle the flame that was burning 25 years ago, that definately wasn't buring this past week. Anyways... they're leaving tomorrow, and I am going to miss them again. It was nice to come home to someone, to see familiar faces to greet me after a long day of work. It was nice to have people to sit around you at a dinner table, and say goodnight to from the other room. I missed the goodnight kisses and the "tuck-ins" at the end of a long day. It was great to see them, but I'm pretty sure I won't miss all the comotion, and I think my mom is ready to go back to Michigan, where it's a little less hectic.

Rough Ride

Last night I had the pleasure of participating in my first ever "Spinning" class. For those of you who are unfamiliar, spinning is a sport which involves using a stand-still bike and riding in 3 different positions to fast beat music. I've heard tons of good things about spinning, and usually the classes are packed. When I checked in at the gym last night, I noticed only 2 people had signed up for the 6-7 class, so I figured "what the hell, if I'm going to make an ass of myself, it might as well be in front of as few people as possible."
When I walked into the room I found the instructor towards the front. I told her I was a beginner and she gave me a quick breakdown of the positions and the way the class works. I figured that I would glide through the hour class, seeing as the other two women looked to be over 40. After 5 minutes I realized that I was wrong. I never sweated so much in my entire life, I didn't even know my body could produce that much sweat.
All in all it was a great workout, and I'm sure I'll do it again, as soon as the pain in my body goes away.

One more day...

Only one more work day, then it's off to the shore. I just spent the past two hours making potato salad. It will probably go unappreciated with the men in the house, but at least I'm doing my part. I can't wait for tomorrow. Last weekend we didn't go down, and I really missed it, even though I had a blast at the wedding. I told myself I wanted to be in bed by 11 tonight, and it looks like I may just make it. I went shopping after work, then worked out, made dinner, and then made potato salad. It feels so nice to finally sit down, and I'm sure it will be heavenly to lay in my bed.
Hopefully this weekend will be fun, and I'll have something more exciting to post on Sunday night. That's about all for now... Goodnight

A weekend trip to Rochester

This past weekend, Adam and I ventured to his parents home back in Rochester, New York. After finally getting on the road at 6:00, we ended up stuck in stop and go traffic for about 2 hours. Once we finally got moving, we arrived at about 12:30 in the morning. Adam's Mom and Dad waited up to greet us, and Aaron wasn't home yet. He went to Barnes and Noble to get the new copy of Harry Potter at midnight. He was number 458 in the line for the people who "reserved" their copies, and said that there was an even longer line of people who didn't. I'm glad I never got into that whole Harry Potter thing, it seems a little excessive.
Anyways, Saturday we got up and relaxed and then got ready for the wedding. Family friends of Adams were getting married, and the ceremony was at 2:00 in the afternoon. We arrived and found a hot and humid church that didn't have air conditioning. The ceremony was short and sweet, thank god. We then went back to Adam's parents house to kill some time between the wedding and the reception. We drank an expensive bottle of champagne, and then another one which wasn't so expensive. We had cheese too, which was the first time I'd ever had wine with cheese. I am a huge fan of this white cheddar kind, and I need to find out where they got it, and what kind it was... maybe it tasted so good because I was already half in the bag.
When we got to the reception, we started pounding the drinks because we didn't know if the cocktail hour meant that drinks (free drinks) would only be served for an hour. By dinner time I was pretty wasted, and the rest of the night we had a great time. The pictures are from the wedding. Take note of my dress...it cost me $9.99. It was orginally $186, it's Ralph Lauren and was on the rack at Lord and Taylor for 49.99, and when they rung it up we were all shocked! I'm glad that it fit!
Anyways, it was a great weekend, I am just sad that it seemed to go by so quickly. It's nice to be around family, even if just for a short time. I can't wait to my parents and sister come out in less than two weeks... I just wish they were bringing the dog too :(

TGIT

Thank god it's Thursday night... I don't think I can take much more this week. Work is stressing me out beyond belief. I'm looking forward to this weekend. Not only because we're going to Rochester, but we're also going to a wedding. I found a gorgeous black RL Lauren dress at Lord & Taylor for 10 bucks!!! It was orginally 150, I think someone made a mistake... but anyways, talk about a great deal. I wish Emily was here to share m enthusiasm for my fashion finds. Today I competed the outfit with a new pair of shoes, earring, a manicure and pedicure. I hope everything looks good together. I can't wait to see Adam's family, and drink with the WHOLE BRAKONIECKI family for the 1st time (legally). It should be a great weekend and I couldn't be more excited!
I turned my computer on to update my blog but I really don't have anything interesting or new to report. I guess that's all, a short one for tonight. I think I'm going to head to bed abnormally early and read for a while. Goodnight!

You're the biggest dick I've ever met!

Thought I would title this post with a quote from some piece of Jersey trash we encountered at the bar.
My friends response to this comment: "That's ok, because you're the fattest girl I've ever met."
Yes my friends, it was one of those weekends at the Jersey shore. There was a lot of drinking which led to a variety of things for the people and visitors of 211 Third Ave. It was an exciting weekend to say the least. I will definately not go into any details!
Anyways, Andrea (my cousin) made her second appearance and the shore this weekend, and we had another fabulous time. After being stuck in traffic for 6 hours, she finally arrived at my apartment at around 6:00pm on Friday, and we were off to Manasquan. I was a little nervous as to how she was going to react to Adam, let alone when he is drunk. They got along well, so hopefully no stories will go floating around the Steinhauser family as they so frequently do. I think that everyone (well mostly everyone) had a fun time at the shore. It was pouring rain on Friday and the forecast called for rain all weekend. "Since when can weathermen predict the weather, let alone the future" (quote from Adam's favorite movie, Back to the Future.) Luckily this weekend they didn't come close. It was gorgeous on Saturday and Sunday, so we took advantage of the gorgeous weather, and stuck around till about 4:00 on Sunday. Judging by the traffice we hit on the way home, I can see why people tend to leave earlier on Sunday. After arriving back home, I showered and picked up Adam to head to Darren's house. He said he lived in the boonies, and he wasn't exagerating. Jim gave us the wrong directions, and we finally arrived to his house an hour later. It worth the trouble. Darren has a gorgeous house with a large deck overlooking the lake in his backyard. Jim brought his sisters dog, Raider over to visit with me, and he made my night. We finally got home after midnight, and needless to say Monday was a long work day b/c I was so tired.
Today after work, I went to the gym and then came back and took a shower. I went to dinner w/ 4 of the guys from the shore. Adam was playing basketball late and couldn't make it. He'll have to come with us again though. They gave us a ton of food, and its very inexpensive. I actually was honored that the guys thought of me, and am happy they did. Thanks guys! It's always nice to see everyone. I really do appreciate you all befriending a big mouthed girl from the midwest.
Well that is all for about now. I'm going to make it an early night... Goodnight

A couple pictures from this past weekend

Is it Friday yet?

I just got done making Pasta Salad and Brownies to bring the shore tomorrow. My cousin, Andrea is making the trip from Boston to Saddle Brook to catch a ride with Adam, Kory and I after work tomorrow. Andrea came to the shore about a month ago, and is coming again this weekend. She had a lot of fun the first time, hopefully this time her beer googles aren't as stong and can refrain from hooking up with anyone over the age of 35. Either way, I know she'll have a great time again, and I'm hoping that tomorrow the weathermen imrpove their weekend forecasts, because it isn't looking very promising.
Today was uneventful, just like every Monday-Thursday. I went to work, worked out, and then went over to Dana's mothers house to see Dana and Nick and Lucy. I think Lucy is my new best friend in Jersey. I want a dog so badly, but I can't have one in my apartment. Oh well I will have to rely on my weekly visits with Lucy to hold me over until I can get my own.
Tonight I have to just pick up my apartment a bit more and slice the brownies. I am hoping to get into bed by 10:00, because Fridays usually require a bit more energy.
I'm looking forward to the weekend and spending time with my friends. I miss all my friends back home though. I definately miss movies with Mike. I miss shopping with Emily, we always found the BEST deals. I miss seeing Kendra get drunk! I miss 11F and EL, I really wish Rick's happy hour was across the street again. Even though there is so much I miss I'm starting to like Jersey, and maybe one day I'll fit in... who knows?

A short week... hopefully

Wow, it's been a while since my last post. I remember thinking last week that I had so much to update but looking back everything is a blur and not much sticks out in my mind. That's the thing about work weeks, all the days just flow together and you get into such a routine that the only parts I remember are the weekends. I guess I better get use to it, I have another 40+ years to go.
As for the weekend, it went by way too fast. We arrived into a rainy Manasquan, but luckily the rain quickly passed, and it turned out to be a gorgeous weekend. I had two full days of sunbathing, and I could have laid out for a third, but I was pretty exhausted from the 3 nights of partying. The food, beer and company were all great, and I didn't encounter anything similar to the weekend prior. I finally met Lucy, Nick & Dana's Cairn terrier, she was so cute and sweet and reminded me of Buffy. Buffy was my cairn terrier who we had to put down in May 2003. Buffy lived for 19 happy years, and she has been greatly missed by our whole family. We got Kasey several months after and she is a little more hyper, but definately adds life to the Steinhauser household. Anyways, I played with Lucy all day, and she was the highlight of my weekend. I also met Nicks wife, Dana, who was very nice to me, and I enjoyed talking to her this weekend. I met lots of other fantastic people too, and it was nice to be surrounded by such great company.
I'm looking forward to this weekend because my cousin Andrea will be joining us once again for another weekend at the shore, and hopefully this time she won't hook up with a 40 year old! I hope this week flys by! Today at work seemed to go by a little faster than usual and I think I finally might start to enjoy my job. Not that I didn't before, it's just taken so long to get the hang of everything.
I got a card from my mom and dad today, and although I love it here, I still miss home a lot. I cry when I think about all the little things I'm missing out on. Like Dad screaming at the dog, or Ashley freaking out about NOTHING. I definately miss my moms food, hugs, and just her being there in general. I still feel like I little kid. I look at myself everyday before work and think "this can't be happenning." I want to ride my bike to 7-11 and run through the sprinkler in the back yard. I want to fill up the plastic pool in the backyard, and drink KoolAid.
The reason I love the shore so much is because for one day a week, I can act like a kid again. I'm not sitting at a desk glancing at the clock every minute, or thinking about what I am going to eat for lunch at 9:00am. We're out in the sun, laughing, and goofing off.
Well that's all for now... goodnight all ~

Another steamy day..

Today there are two things I miss terribly from home: a washer and dryer and central air conditioning. I shouldn't complain about the air though because a lot of people don't even have a window unit like I do. It's actually very comfortable in my apartment, and I'm so exhausted I can't wait to jump into bed.
Tonight I got 3 weeks of laundry done, and officially signed up for my gym membership (the past week was my free trial). Tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut. I can't wait because I haven't gotten it cut since March and it's looking very gross, and I want something shorter for the summer.
Not too much else, can't wait for this week to be over... only 3 more days!

A new week

Ugh... I am so tired. I went to bed fairly early last night, and I have a feeling that I'll be heading to be in a little bit here. I went to work out after work today and am happy that I did, as I was considering not going. No excuses... I really want to be in better shape. I'm waiting for Adam to come back from the Dodge dealership. He put down a deposit on a 2005 Dodge Durango w/ the HEMI. I know when he comes back that is all he's going to want to talk about, and as much as I hate talking about cars with him, I'm actually excited for him.
Anyways, I'm in a better mood than last night, and Jim and I seemed to have worked things out. I'm still a little ticked, but he's truely sorry so I forgave him.
I know it's a little short, but my dinner is almost ready, and I have a few things I want to do before hitting the sack. Goodnight all.

Things aren't always as good as they seem...

This weekend was different. Usually I enjoy going down to the shore, but this weekend made me think twice about the people I was so quick to pick up as my close friends. I may seem a little extreme, but this seems like a good way to vent the way I feel, as I know some of them may read this.
I would normally consider myself to be easygoing and strong... nothing usually gets to me. Usually. But I found myself in several situations this weekend that really opened my eyes and made me realize that sometimes people are too good to be true, and everyone can treat you like shit sometimes.
The first occured when I arrived at the shore to find many of the guys drunk. I had baked cupcakes for Mike's b-day, as Adam and I missed it last weekend. I thought it was a pretty thoughtfull gesture, as guys would never bake another guy cupcakes and it's just another bonus of having a female live in the house. So I bring a drunken Mike a plate full of cupcakes, and he immediately grabs one and chucks it across the front lawn. I couldn't believe someone could be so rude, and disrespectfull and proceed to tell him that. He then grabs the cupcake from the ground to eat it. It made me laugh, but I still felt hurt. I know I'm not perfect, and I know Mike was drunk, but I still felt hurt that I go out of my way to do something nice for someone and HE"S the one to shit on me.
The second incident may seem more trivial, but seemed to upset me a lot more. It really hit a nerve in me b/c this time it didn't just effect me, it affected someone I love and care about. And the worst part, was that it came from the person I felt closest to; the guy in the house who I consider to be one of my best friends, and I think because HE let me down is why it hurts so bad.
So Adam and I go to bed, and I plug my cell phone in our room. Somehow it manages to end up on the kitchen table and one of my good buddies from home happens to call as all the guys are WASTED in the living room, and hear it ring. Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyways, so one of the guys picks it up and proceeds to start shit with my friend on the other end. Jim, comes in my room while I'm asleep and asks if I know who Mark is, thinking there's some guy at the house asking for me, I say no. Then I hear more screaming, and people saying threatening things. I realize that they are talking to my friend Marc and have been doing this for a while now. Kory brings me my phone and I call him back. I finally manage to get him on the phone and he's FURIOUS. I tell him that I had nothing to do with it, and my friends were drunk. This doesn't seem to help, he's still upset and reminds me of Adam when he's drunk and we get into an argument. Marc is so mad... he doesn't like to be threatened and I don't think anyone would have thought it was funny if they were in his situation. Judging by what he told me, it seemed like my friends not only ruined my night, but his as well. When you piss someone off you are not only making them mad, they reflect that on the people they're with and it ruins their night, b/c their friend isn't having a good time.
I talk to Marc a lot. He's the one friend from MSU, that I didn't live with, that I consider to be one of my best friends. I tell him how much I like NJ, and how great the guys there treat me. I tell him how nice everyone is, and that he should come down and visit sometime. I tell him not to worry about me, and that I'm in good hands.
I'm honestly embarassed, that someone I thought so highly of, could say things so terrible, regardless if they knew he was someone I knew or not. I feel betrayed. It takes one night to completely change the way someone feels about you, and these guys definately made me question the way I feel about them.
I guess I'm just too friendly. Myabe I'm stupid for trusting and developing ideas about people so quickly.... maybe I just wanted people here, in NJ that I could call my friends.

2 more days...

Why is this work week going by sooo slow? I feel like I sit at my desk for about 12 hours each day, when it's probably not more than 5. I think it's because I am looking forward to going to the shore this weekend. Although last weekend was great, I missed the shore and the chaos. I just can't wait until Friday.
How about those Pistons huh? I wish I could say that I watched the whole game last night, but I am a little embarassed to admit that Adam and I left the bar at half time and were asleep before the next half began. I've been getting more sleep than I did in college, and I'm doing 1/2 the work, so I have no clue as to why I am so exhausted.
I didn't work out today because I am way too sore from Monday and Tuesdays work outs. I'll be there tomorrow for sure, then I will be going home to work on some culinary masterpieces for this weekend. I enjoy cooking, except when I am trying to keep my apartment cool, and I have to have the stove on. Tonight I made a new recipe I found on the internet, and it was actually pretty decent, so that made me happy.
As you can tell there isn't much to report, same shit, different day. I hope I'll have something exciting to report soon, but until then I'm going to catch up on some sleep. Goodnight

Just another manic Monday

Today was definately one of those crazy Mondays. Work wasn't too bad, but getting into the airport last night after 11:00, not getting home until midnight, and not going to bed until 1:00, when I had to wake up at 7:00 was pretty rough. I felt like I was going to pass out on my desk all day. After work I went home and changed and finally got my fat ass to the gym. Adam goes to a really nice gym and I got a membership as well. I felt pretty good after not having worked out in a year!!! I made it 25 minutes on the eliptical machine going full speed. I then ate dinner and showered and that is where I am now. I could have went home after work and passed out, but I didn't and I feel like my day had some purpose at least.
On a sad note, the Pistons lost last night, hopefully we can give the Spurs a run for their money in the last two games. I wanted to get back to NY on time last night, but didn't get home until the game was almost over. Tomorrow night we're going to watch it for sure and I can finally get the Buffalo Wings I have been craving all weekend!
The weekend at home was great. I was nice to finally see my family and my dog! My sister's grad party went well and the food was great. I only wish I could have stayed home and helped polish off the leftovers. Ashely was very excited with her present from Adam and I. I saw Kendra too, it was nice to talk to someone who understands you, and is such a great friend to me and my family.
After being home, I started to realize the happier I am with my decision to be out here. I love Michigan and the people there, but I know I would miss Adam so much, and living at home would not be easy either. My mom is a little over protective and I know that it would be hard to get the experience I am now, living at home. I think we'll both get by ok, and I'm sure we'll see each other often.
Well that's about it for tonight... I am exhausted. I will try to write tomorrow... GO PISTONS!!!

Go Pistons !

Went to the bar tonight with some of the guys from the shore house. We were going to go to Hooters but when we arrived we soon learned it was biker night and had to choose another place to watch the game. Had a good time and great conversation as always. I'm happy I got to see everyone, as I won't be seeing them this weekend. Like I said before they are a great group of guys, and because they are the only friends I have, it's nice to spend time with them. And to make the night better the Pistons finally won a game in this round, lets hope they can keep it up.
Work went well today, I'm starting to get a little busier, and beginning to have appointments, and call backs from weeks ago. I'm learning a lot about the business and also about the company in general. I got my first full 2 week paycheck today too. Not too bad, but a little sad to see that most of it is spoken for in bills, food..etc. I love New Jersey but everything is more expensive here it seems. I miss Rick's $2.00 pitchers! Hell, even a $10 pitcher would be inexpensive now. The bars at the shore sell 12 oz cans of beer for $3.75, it's a good thing we're drunk before we go!
Not much else new here, goodnight! GO PISTONS!!!!

A New Place

It's a horrible feeling. Leaving all your friends, and your family to permanently live someplace you've only visited a handfull of times. It's just like that quote in Garden State:
"You'll see when you move out it just sort of happens one day and it's just gone. And you can never get it back. It's like you get homesick for a place that doesn't exist. I mean it's like this rite of passage, you know. You won't have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start, its like a cycle or something. I miss the idea of it. Maybe that's all family really is. a group of people who miss the same imaginary place."
I definately miss everything about Michigan. The night before I left I didn't sleep. I cried so hard for so long. I felt so bad about leaving everyone, and making so many people sad. I must think about my friends from home a million times a day. I still refer to Kendra, Emily and Amy as my roomates. Sometimes I think it hasn't clicked yet, and all it takes is walking into an empty apartment to really feel alone.
Don't get me wrong, I spend plenty of time with Adam, and everything with us has been perfect, but he can't possibly take the place of everyone. Even when I am with him, my mind wanders and I think about everyone and get so sad. It's like I know if I had found a job in MI I would be going through the same thing with him, and because he's such a huge part of my life, I don't regret moving out here. I have a great job, a nice apartment, and an amazing boyfriend, but I have no freinds out here. I am beginning to become a lot closer to some of the guys at the shore house, but it's not like I hang out with them any other time.
Enough about that... Anyways, I've been here almost a month. Like I said my apartment is pretty cool. It's not as small as I had imagined, and it's perfect for me. I live only 20 minutes outside New York City, so once the summer is over and we no longer have the shore house, I'm sure Adam and I will be taking a million trips into the city. There are so many shows I want to see, and I would love to get tickets to SNL again. I have a lot to look forward too and for the more part I am doing fine. I miss the kids at the preschool though. Those babies made me so happy, and I can't wait to see how they've grown the Fall.
The shore house was the greatest idea Adam has ever had. We have so much fun there. It's like Spring Break every weekend, and I'm fortunate enough to live with the greatest guys. They are always taking care of me and looking out for me. They're just an amazing group! I've made it down there the past 3 weekends, and because I'm going home this weekend it will be the first weekend I haven't gone down. I'm the youngest one in the house, and feel embarassed at how everyone else seems to party harder, drink faster, and stay up later than me. I thought that Michigan State made me a party animal, but apparently not as much as I thought.
Ok, well now that I've done my babbling for the night, I'm going to get to bed. Goodnight all!
