Next week will mark exactly 2 years and 6 months of living in NJ. Although I was on my own during my 4 years at Michigan State, I didn't have any of the financial responsibility of being an adult as I was fortunate enough to have parents that paid for my tuition and room and board. So since I'm in a particularly emotional mood, I decided to come up with a list of things that I've discovered in my 30 months of officially living as an "ADULT"
-No matter how old you are, there are times in your life when you just want your mom (i.e. when you're in the hospital ER by yourself 600 miles away from "home").
-Automobiles in general are a huge waste of money. Between car payments, insurance, gas, oil changes and the $800.00 annual tune-up that the service manager cons you into getting because you have a vagina, it's just too much!
-No one is going to change unless they want to. You must learn to accept people with their flaws and know that they may always be like that. No one is perfect.
-No matter how shitty of a day you're having, there's someone else that's having an even more terrible day... and while you may think things can't get any worse, they always can.
-There isn't a monetary value for your time. Work hard and play hard and hope that Saturday and Sunday provide enough time for you to rest and have fun because you won't get to do either during the work week.
-There's a lot to be said about having your childhood best friend within visiting distance. I don't know where I'd be without her.
-Just because you sleep in the same bed as someone doesn't mean you have a relationship. It's important to make time for one another and do things together, even everyday things like laundry and grocery shopping.
-The mentality in the midwest is completely different than the east coast. Even 2.5 years later I still have a hard time figuring people out and I still miss "home".
