So much has happened since my last posting, probably the biggest event would have to be the visit from my family. Last Friday, Adam and I headed up to Boston. My parents were going to meet us there on Saturday evening, b/c my mom had to work Friday night. We arrived around 9:30pm, making pretty decent time considering I stopped for gas, McDonalds and hit some traffic. We arrived to the Sheraton, and checked in. Our room was at the very end of hall way and was a suite which spanned the width of the building. There were windows in every room, and we could see the Charles River and Fenway Park from our bedroom window. We had a living area, dining area, small kitchen nook, and 2 bathrooms. The room was AMAZING! Adam reminded me of a kid in a candy shop he was so excited. Andrea and her friend Dan met up with us and took us to a bar called Dick's Last resort. They made Adam wear a hat that said "2 pump chump" and me a baloon tied to my hair that said "I swallow" with an arrow pointing down to my head. Andrea said they like to pick on tourists, and I have a feeling a little bird told our waitress we were from outta town. We had a great night, and Dan was such a great guy... I think Adam would date him if he could!
The next day Andrea and Dan took us around to Fanieul Hall and Fenway Park. We visited a Brewery by the ballpark and I had a blueberry beer that had actual blueberries in it. Adam, y genius of a boyfriend said "does the blueberries come out of the tap?" I nearly died laughing until Andrea admitted that she asked the same question the 1st time she had the unique brew. My mom, dad, sister and grandma arrived that night and we all went out to dinner.
Sunday Adam and I had to head back, and my family stuck around Boston until Tuesday, when I became graced with their presence at my apartment. I have one bedroom with one bed, and I now had to figure out sleeping arragements for 4 OTHER PEOPLE! The fist night grandma slept with me in a bed, because it was better for her back. My dad, mom and sister slept on 2 air mattresses in the living room. Thank god I have a lot of floor space.
On Wednesday I had a meeting in Maryland, and my parents went to the shore to spend the night. When I got home on Wednesday night, I realized how nice it is to return to my apartment and not have 4 other people. I admit, I miss my family like crazy, and moving 11 hours away was hard, but having my own place, my own space, and privacy is priceless.
I wish there was a median, like if Adam and I lived like 2 hours away from my family, then we could go home to go laundry and for homemade meals... but I think that was what college was all about. In the end, I'm glad I'm here. Yes I miss central air, a washer and dryer, good food, and having a dog, but I think this is good for me and for my family. They'll learn to get along w/ out me, and when it's just my mom and my dad, maybe they can rekindle the flame that was burning 25 years ago, that definately wasn't buring this past week. Anyways... they're leaving tomorrow, and I am going to miss them again. It was nice to come home to someone, to see familiar faces to greet me after a long day of work. It was nice to have people to sit around you at a dinner table, and say goodnight to from the other room. I missed the goodnight kisses and the "tuck-ins" at the end of a long day. It was great to see them, but I'm pretty sure I won't miss all the comotion, and I think my mom is ready to go back to Michigan, where it's a little less hectic.
