St. Patty's Day, Atlantic City and a very productive Sunday

So I’ve been pretty good about updating my blog, and although I have nothing exciting to report I wanted to make sure that I post a little something for my devoted fans.
Friday was St. Patrick’s Day and as much as I wanted to go out and do something, I decided not to. Adam and all my friends went into NYC to celebrate and by the time I got out of work everyone was so wasted that I didn’t want to venture into the city to deal with a bunch of drunks. So after work, Kevin, Sang, Chris and I went across the street to a local bar to ring in the holiday with some green beer.
I called it a night very early because I wanted to get home in time to see the Spartans take on George Mason at 7:10pm. Being from Detroit and having gone to Michigan State (the Lions and Spartans) I’ve become fairly accustom to upsets, and pretty much just assumed we’d lose. But this past game I was pretty sure they could pull it off… boy was I wrong. Sitting at the computer watching the game (the UConn game was on CBS), I could tell it was not going to go our way… oh well, what else is new?! Guess I’ll just have to wait until the fall for the Spartans to disappoint me again.
After the game I dozed off, and woke up around 11:30pm when Adam and Walt called me from Hoboken to come pick them up. On the ride home the conversation went something like this:
Me: “you’re welcome for me coming to pick you up”
Adam: “great, I get my phone stolen and I’m getting yelled at. Real great”
Walt: “Abbey, I love you. Thanks for picking us up. Did I tell you I love you? Abbey, I love you. Tell Kendra I love her. I love you Abbey.”
When Adam and Walt are drunk together it’s not always pretty, but because Adam tends to get more argumentative, and Walt becomes the most loving individual ever, they balance one another out, and I can usually handle them… in small doses.
Well needless to say Adam fell asleep in the car ride home, and Walt ended up sleeping on our living room floor.
The next morning we had to get up at 6:30am to be at BD by 8:00am for the Atlantic City bus. I was a little leery of the whole situation, but after going, I think Adam and I will be regulars on that trip whenever it’s offered again. The bus trip was $12.00 for the trip there and back. Once we arrived to the Showboat we received a $5.00 food coupon and $15.00 cash to use for gambling. I didn’t bring any cash with me, b/c I told myself that the $15.00 they gave us would be my ONLY money to play with. Adam started with $20.00 b/c he had $5.00 of comps from his first trip to A.C.
Adam thought it would be nice to go down for just the day to see how I liked it. He’s warned me over and over that it’s very dirty, and NOTHING like Las Vegas. Maybe because I came expecting the worse, I was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn’t say the casinos were dirty, it was more so the people. Adam and I saw about 100 NASCAR shirts, and I didn’t see one person over 70 without a cigarette hanging out of their mouths. The smoke was probably the worst part. By 2:00pm I had a terrible headache and by the time we were headed home I was feeling nauseous. Luckily, the headache didn’t stop me from winning… I played Price is Right slots, and walked away with $60.00.
I don’t know if I could spend a whole weekend there, or even a night. Being there for 7 hours was the perfect amount. I got to fulfill my “gambling jones” and got to see the Atlantic City boardwalk for the first time. The boardwalk was pretty dirty in comparison to the many times I’ve seen it in my favorite movie “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.” I guess within the past hundred years a lot has changed, but it was still nice to see the ocean again.
Once we got home I popped a couple aspirins and laid down to attempt to get rid of my headache. It was about 10:00pm, and it still wasn’t going anywhere! Adam and I headed to Mason’s for some flourless chocolate cake, beer, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Kevin was also there, and I got me meet Mason’s friend Andrea that came in from California for his Birthday.
On Sunday, Adam and I went to church, then came home and did 9 loads of laundry. We used up all the machines in our apartment complex for a couple hours, but it had to get done. It had been 3 weeks since we last did laundry and I was beginning to run out of underwear. I said underwear, not clothes. I think I have enough clothes to last an entire year without washing. Anyways, between cooking chili, folding laundry and picking up, I managed to get my taxes done as well!!! Yay!!! I sat down thinking I was going to owe, and ended up getting a $500 refund. Because I only worked ½ the year I was at a much lower tax bracket, and claiming a 3 (I still have no idea why I claimed 3) didn’t hurt me all that bad. Don’t worry, I’ve fixed that for the 2006 year.
After a very productive day, I went to baby-sitt for the night. The kids were again angels, and it couldn’t have gone better. My side business is starting to take off. I have to baby-sitt again tonight and again Friday night. Of course I don’t mind at all. I love kids and look forward to the day I can come home to my own… not so soon though, it’s nice to be able to play with them then give them back. I’m thinking 10 years…
Monday was Mason’s actual Birthday, so I took him out for dinner. We went to get Mexican food in Montclair, and killed off a pitcher of Margaritas. It was very good, but not as good as the leftover flourless chocolate cake I managed to help with. I’m glad I could spend time w/ Mason on his birthday because I know how hard it is to be away from your family and friends on special days.
Yesterday I didn’t do anything...not 1 thing. I came home and fell asleep by 9:30 watching American Idol. Wow, for not having anything to write about I sure did fill up a lot of space. Hopefully I’ll have as much to write next week.

aww, I am loved. (I can picture that drunken scene in my head. You really are a good friend/girlfriend for dealing with those two!)

It must have been a neat surprise to find out that you got $ back from your taxes...if you apply it to the cost of the shore house it will seem like a real deal this summer!
