Go Blow!

Last weekend Adam and I made a last-minute trip back to Detroit for a suprise party for my Dad.
My Dad has worked at his current job, Detroit Air Compressor & Pump Co. since I was 9 months old. He's known some of this co-workers for 19+ years, so when he told them he was leaving DACO, they were sad to see him go. At my grandmothers suggestion, my mother decided to have a suprise party for him and invited friends, family and his co-workers.
Before I go on to tell you about the party, I should probably explain why my Dad has choosen to leave. It wasn't an easy decision and for my mother and father who HATE change, it came as quite a shock when my Dad was offered a position at The University of Michigan. My Dad had worked on their air compressors for years, and when a position opened at UofM they requested that my Dad apply. After several interviews, tests and beating out 5 other applicants my Dad was offered a position at one of the colleges I despise the most. The benefits, pension and 401k made the position pretty appealing and he accepted the job on the spot.
Adam and I arrived into Detroit on Friday evening, just in time to go back to my parents house and crash for the night. On Saturday morning my mom went off to her quilting class while I took my sister to her Dr's. appt. Getting out of the house allowed Ashley and I to pick up balloons, the cake, and a handfull of other goodies we needed for the party. After an afternoon of running around we went home to prime my dad for the party. I gave him a haircut, made him switch out of his MSU sweatshirt (at any other time I would prefer he wear MSU over UofM, but tonight was an exception), and told him that we were meeting mom at a restaurant around the corner from our house. What my dad didn't know was that not only were we meeting my mom, but 50+ people who came out to wish my dad farewell, goodluck and congratulations.
Of course I couldn't let my dad get away with going to work for UofM without giving him some shit for it...
