Anyways, Carl flew in Friday afternoon with his friend from K-Zoo, Marc. After getting stuck in traffic on the Tri-boro bridge on my way to LaGuardia and then getting stuck on the Major Deegan on our way back to my apartment, Carl and Marc arrived safely into NJ around 8:00pm. We picked up a couple pies and some beer and begun our weekend together at my apartment. After much deliberation about what to do that night we decided to venture into the city to kick off our weekend.
We introduced Carl to one our our favorite spots in the city, Kevin St. James (KSJ as we commonly refer to it). After grabbing some drinks there and filling our stomachs with drunk munchies we were on our way back to NJ. It was an early night for us, but we knew we had a pretty busy weekend ahead of us.
On Saturday we got ready and headed into the city again. We ate lunch at another one of our favorite places in NYC, Burritoville. There are several small Burritoville locations throughout the city and every person Kendra or I have brought there has not been disappointed. After lunch we met up with our friends Fink and Sarah at Dave and Busters. I'm not a huge fan of spending the afternoon inside playing video games but we were sweaty and gross and the air conditioning felt great. We played lots of games and Sarah and I even hit the big wheel spot for 1,000 tickets. The beers were big and decent priced, and super refreshing. They went down so smooth and it turned out to be such a fun afternoon. We spent our "winnings" on some shot glasses, pint glasses and "grillz". I ended up leaving the shot glasses and pint glasses at a bar later in the night, but Carl and Marc kept their grillz and I'm hoping they can make an excellent edition to their Halloween costumes.
After leaving Dave and Busters we headed back to Hoboken for dinner and to meet up with a couple more of our NJ friends. We were all pretty worn out but it felt good to eat. My friend Jodi met up with us. She's been in Key West all summer so it was good to catch up. Our friend Walt also met up with us. Carl and Marc were pretty tired, but they rallied and we ended up catching the last train from Hoboken back to my apartment.
On Sunday I drove Marc, Carl and Kendra out to Port Jefferson. On our way our East we stopped by one of Kendra's favorite restaurants (if you can even call it a restaurant) in Roslyn. Hummus World's menu is simple. The food is fabulous, and the traffic is never ending. There were a minumum of 15 people crammed into this small eatery at all times. They were featured in the NY Times last year and since then they've gotten many more loyal customers. I'm pretty sure you can add my name to that list!
After lunch we went to a couple wineries (see my previous post) and then grabbed dinner and desert (Ralph's Italian Ice... yum) back in Port Jefferson.
I'm pretty sure Carl had a good time visiting. It was great to catch up with an old friend and I hope he didn't mind eating and drinking his way through NY and NJ!
